About Clever
Clever is a venture-backed real estate technology company on a mission to revolutionize the way people buy, sell, and manage real estate. We've helped over 30,000 homeowners sell their homes while saving thousands in fees, and we're just getting started. With a strong foundation in real estate, we're aggressively expanding through vertical integration, building a suite of adjacent businesses that serve customers at every step of the home transaction journey.

We've built the leading online education platform in real estate and earned a 4.9 TrustPilot rating with over 3,800 reviews - helping consumers save over $210 million in real estate fees. If you're excited to play a key role at a company that transforms how people navigate their real estate journey, we’d love to hear from you!

Role OverviewWe're hiring a VP of Paid Media to own Clever's growth across every paid channel and scale us into one of the highest-performing paid acquisition teams in real estate. This role reports to the President and serves as a critical partner to our VP of Marketing, Sales leadership, and Product—helping Clever scale a world-class, in-house paid growth function with the speed, creative velocity, and testing discipline of the best consumer brands in the market. This is a senior operator-leader role for someone who has personally managed million-dollar monthly budgets, and wants to build the system, the team, and the playbook from the ground up. This role will bring a clear point of view on what a high-performing paid team looks like, whether that's a tight in-house pod, a flexible network of contractors for creative and statics, or some combination, and will own the outcome end to end. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader to bring the vision and execute it.Key Responsibilities
  • Take full accountability for Clever's growth and ROAS across all paid channels—including Google, Meta, TikTok, ChatGPT Ads, and emerging channels as they mature.
  • Own the entire paid customer journey: ad creative, audience targeting, landing pages, on-page experience, lifecycle (email and SMS) follow-up, and conversion to qualified pipeline—not just the ad itself.
  • Build, test, and codify a repeatable system for launching, scaling, and pruning channels, so paid growth becomes a reliable internal advantage rather than a series of one-off wins.
  • Set the creative and testing roadmap—diagnose what's working, kill what isn't, and operate with a high cadence of disciplined experiments across ads, landers, and funnels.
  • Set the analytics and attribution standard for paid—define the KPIs, the dashboards, and the rituals that keep the team and leadership aligned on what's actually driving profitable growth.
  • Stay on the leading edge of paid channels, ad formats, and AI tooling—bring new bets to the table and have a strong opinion on which ones are worth Clever's time and dollars.
What Success Looks Like:

In 6 months…

  • Fully audited Clever's paid accounts with a clear plan on what to scale, fix, or kill.
  • Moved paid execution in-house, with the systems and team to support it.
  • Grown monthly paid spend meaningfully while holding or improving ROAS.

In 12 months…

  • At least two new channels have matured into profitable, scaled growth drivers.
  • Monthly paid spend has grown materially with disciplined ROAS across every channel.
  • Paid growth runs fully in-house with a documented testing playbook driving consistent gains.
  • Your team tests the full funnel—ads, landers, lifecycle, conversion—in tight partnership with Sales.
  • Clever's paid function is recognized as one of the highest-performing in our category.
Ideal Candidate
  • 10+ years in paid marketing, with a recent track record of being close enough to the work to speak fluently about ad-level performance, account structure, and landing page diagnostics.
  • Has personally managedmillion-dollar monthly paid budgets at companies where every dollar had to return a measurable, profitable outcome.
  • Deep expertise in Google and Meta; strong fluency across TikTok and other emerging paid channels.
  • Comfortable owning the full funnel—from ad to landing page to lifecycle—and has a portfolio of examples where they improved conversion across the entire customer experience, not just the click.
  • Bias toward building systems and testing playbooks, not just running campaigns.
  • AI-forward—actively using AI tooling to compound creative output, audience research, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to influence across teams and levels
  • Real estate, fintech, or marketplace industry experience a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
