About this Role

Fandom is home to the world’s most passionate fan communities across gaming, film, TV, comics, and beyond. As our VP Games & Entertainment Media, you will craft the vision and operating plan for how we evolve GameSpot and Metacritic while expanding our entertainment footprint across movies, television, and streaming. You’ll lead our multi-disciplinary content strategy across editorial, video and social, to build magnetic brands that grow audience, deepen engagement, and unlock premium monetization at global scale.

You Will...
  • Drive Results by setting and socializing a multi-year strategy—reporting to the GM of Fandom Media—to accelerate growth of our gaming and entertainment media brands across dot-com, social, video, audio, and emerging platforms, balancing today’s KPIs with bold bets that fuel future expansion.
  • Take Ownership & Accountability for high-impact, enterprise-wide initiatives: own editorial, social and video budgets, and forecasting; contract clear, measurable expectations with cross-functional leaders; and stay relentlessly focused until targets are met or exceeded.
  • Demonstrate a Growth Mindset & Positive Thinking by translating audience, cultural, and platform shifts (e.g., Gen Z viewing habits, AI-driven discovery) into actionable roadmaps, fostering a culture of experimentation, resilience, and continuous learning.
  • Operate as One Team—partner with C-suite and SVPs to embed Games & Entertainment Media priorities into corporate planning, OKRs, and M&A decisions; mentor leaders to collaborate at scale and model a blame-free, solutions-first mindset.
  • Differentiate brand identities—from GameSpot and Metacritic to future verticals—through creator partnerships, UGC programs, live events, fandom activations, and platform-native franchises that deepen authenticity, credibility, and cultural relevance.
  • Guide world-class content execution by inspiring internal and external creatives to ship authoritative editorial, original video series, live streams, podcasts, and immersive social storytelling that delight fans and advertisers alike.
  • Develop market leading sponsorship opportunities by ensuring marketability of our media efforts.
  • Lead through leaders: hire, coach, and develop multi-layered teams with succession plans, and a culture that prizes accountability, optimism, and unified progress toward Fandom’s mission.
  • Run the business with operational rigor—leveraging competitive insights and disciplined problem-solving methodologies to optimize performance, resolve strategic gaps, and unlock new growth bets that position Fandom at the forefront of fan-powered media.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
