VOLT is building the next generation of AI perception systems for the physical world, focused on safety, security, and real-time risk detection.

We are seeking a Vice President of Finance to build the financial foundation that will carry VOLT through Series B and beyond. You will own FP&A, accounting, fundraising, and finance operations, and translate strategy into plans, plans into capital, and capital into outcomes.

This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, with a dotted line to the Board of Directors.

As VP of Finance, your role will include:

    • Financial Strategy & Leadership: Build, lead, and scale a high-performing finance and accounting function responsible for driving capital efficiency and long-term financial health. You will own VOLT’s financial operating system end-to-end.

    • FP&A and Modeling: Own the operating model, annual budget, and rolling forecast. You will be the expert in planning, reporting, and modeling financials to support strategic decision-making across the company.

    • Accounting & Compliance: Partner with Accountants to own the post-transaction financial reality — month-end close, GAAP reporting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and tax compliance. You will ensure accuracy in financial reporting while finding efficiencies across the P&L.

    • Audit Readiness: Prepare VOLT for and lead the company through its first full external financial audit. You will stand up the controls, documentation, working papers, and reporting cadence that a public-company-track business requires.

    • Fundraising & Investor Relations: Serve as the CEO’s key partner during fundraising. You will lead the operating model, KPI book, data room, and management presentation, manage diligence, and own the financial narrative for new and existing investors.

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the financial voice of the business, providing critical feedback to Product, GTM, and Engineering to influence the roadmap based on unit economics and efficiency metrics that have a clear impact on new business and retention.

    • Capital Strategy: Evaluate and execute equity, venture debt, and non-dilutive capital options, and support the CEO on any M&A activity, including diligence, valuation, modeling, and integration.

    • Systems & Operations: Own the finance tech stack — ERP, billing, expense, equity, BI — and the processes (procurement, contracting, order-to-cash) required to scale to a $50M+ ARR business.

    • Executive Partnership: Serve as the primary financial escalation point and engage directly with the Board of Directors and executive leadership to align financial constraints with ambitious growth goals.

This role could be a fit for you if you bring:

    • Deep Financial Expertise: Strong technical depth in corporate finance, knowledge of GAAP accounting, and SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, GRR, CAC, magic number, Rule of 40), with the ability to navigate complex financial scenarios.

    • Fundraising Experience: Proven experience leading venture financing rounds end-to-end, with a track record of successful diligence management and investor relationship building.

    • Audit Experience: You have prepared a company for and successfully led it through a meaningful external audit — including working papers, technical accounting memos, and auditor management.

    • Leadership Experience: You have led finance and accounting teams in a high-growth startup or SaaS environment, fostering a culture of transparency, ownership, and fiscal responsibility.

    • Strategic & Tactical Ability: You can define high-level financial strategy while remaining hands-on enough to dive into models, billing configurations, and contract reviews when needed.

    • Communication Skills: You can effectively articulate complex financial concepts to a variety of audiences, from engineers to VCs and C-level executives.

Bonus points for:

    • CPA, CFA, or MBA designation.

    • Experience taking a company through a Series B → Series C / D transition.

    • Experience in safety, security, robotics, or autonomous systems markets.

    • Experience implementing or managing financial systems (ERP, billing, equity).

    • Experience standing up SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance programs.

    • Prior CFO experience or a clear path to a CFO seat.

VOLT Values

    • Be Direct: We say what we mean and give clear, candid feedback.

    • Move Fast: We ship, learn, and decide with urgency.

    • Customer Centric: We start and end every decision with the customer.

    • Build the Impossible: We tackle hard problems others won’t and find a way through.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
