Who are we?

We believe Ethereum has the potential to solve some of humanity’s most crucial coordination issues. Since our initial inception as a research group, we have sought to scale both its technology and values.

At present, the most pressing bottleneck to the growth of Ethereum is its performance and scalability. We are building the most elegant solution to this problem. We do this in the open (under an MIT open source license) because we believe in open source innovation and its ability to accelerate growth.

OP Labs contributes to the Optimism protocol, an extension to Ethereum that scales both its technology and values. Optimism enables orders of magnitude of improved performance and scalability to Ethereum while doubling down on its commitment to public goods.

The Optimism Collective leads the blockchain protocol landscape, dedicated to fostering a scalable and sustainable ecosystem. Optimism’s ethos, in sync with Ethereum's vision, tackles pivotal coordination challenges of the digital age. Position Overview:

OP Labs is seeking a dynamic Head of Engineering to lead our technical teams and shape the strategic direction of our engineering efforts. This pivotal role will guide our evolution into a scalable platform, enabling us to meet the demands of a growing customer base while driving innovation in blockchain technology.

What are the role responsibilities?

• Strategic Leadership:

  • Guide and mentor engineering leaders, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.

  • Set the technical vision and align engineering efforts with organizational goals.

• Technical Expertise:

  • Oversee the design of critical system components and evaluate emerging technologies.

  • Conduct technical reviews, optimize engineering practices, and support security assessments.

• Decentralized Development:

  • Develop processes to enable open-source contributors to deliver secure, high-quality code across the OP-Stack ecosystem.

• Operational Excellence:

  • Implement tools and processes to enhance engineering efficiency and ensure consistent delivery.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a high-performance engineering environment.

• Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management and DevOps, to ensure cohesive architecture and best practices.

  • Serve as a technical leader, bridging engineering efforts with broader organizational strategies.

What You Bring:

• 15+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, preferably within the blockchain or cryptocurrency sectors.

• Expertise in Ethereum, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and Layer 2 scaling technologies.

• Experience managing open-source projects and fostering contributor communities is a strong advantage.

• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects, from ideation to production.

• Deep understanding of software architecture, design principles, and development best practices.

• A commitment to security and a passion for protecting and advancing the Ethereum ecosystem.
