The Opportunity:

We are seeking for you as an experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead and enhance our leadership team in the goal to run a performant engineering department with a mindset of “tech is a people business” emphasizing on reliability and a world-class developer experience. You will empower and mentor different roles in engineering leadership/management to run the different product groups with each several teams in a lean and efficient manner to further growth of commercetools. Reporting directly to the CTO you will play a pivotal role in driving technical innovation, fostering a culture of collaboration, and continuously delivering composable commerce that exceeds customer expectations in partnership with the VP of Product.

This role offers a hybrid work environment with three days a week in our local office.
 
Your Mission:
  • Ensure the product development strategy includes a strong focus on infrastructure and developer experience, aligning with Product Management and communicated clearly across the department.
  • Drive people and team topology planning (FTE, skills needed, depth of experience, internal and external staffing mix). Own the related budget
  • Foster operational excellence and high-performance teams
  • Ensure successful execution of tech initiatives in close collaboration with Principal Engineers
  • Be a role model in Engineering Management and support your leaders to balance between delivery, security and quality aligned with the company goals 
  • Initiate and foster collaborative partnerships with all departments companywide
  • Champion a customer-centric approach to product development, soliciting feedback, and proactively addressing impediments, regulatory requirements and pain points
  • Establish a data-informed decision culture within your organization

What you need to succeed:
  • Profound knowledge in strategy building and direction setting
  • Proven track record of leadership and management (of managers) in high-growth technology companies with hundreds of employees for the last 3 years
  • Experience in SaaS B2B product development, with a deep understanding of infrastructure and developer experience needs
  • Passion for teamwork coming with excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Leading people in a tech environment with and enabling your direct reports in a servant leadership style with 80 plus people
  • Sharp analytical skills to have a bird eye view and attention to detail where necessary
  • Great self-assessment mastery and mentality to share/receive feedback in a Radical Candor way with the aspiration to constantly improve yourself
  • Experience working within an Agile environment with a focus on engaging everyone to work on the success of our customer, including robust infrastructure and a smooth developer experience
  • Hungry to learn more about products, technologies, concepts and processes
