About this Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced VP/Director to join the Quantitative Investment Solutions (QIS) team, a specialized unit within Aperio Portfolio Management, operating under BlackRock’s SMA Solutions business. QIS is responsible for driving strategic product innovation, developing tax-managed investment strategies, and advancing quantitative research. The team spearheads the creation of cutting-edge tax-advantaged solutions, encompasses direct indexing, active long/short, option overlays, factor tilts, concentration management and more. QIS also plays a pivotal role in client engagement and internal business development collaboration, supporting product activation and commercial growth.

The VP/Director will contribute to the end-to-end design, development, and implementation of quantitative tax-managed investment strategies, support product and business development in scaling commercialization, and engage with clients to communicate insights and drive adoption. This role requires advanced quantitative expertise and deep experience in systematic portfolio management and research, with a proven history in designing and managing equity long/short or active strategies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems related to optimization, tax-managed portfolio construction, and risk modeling. The role also requires effective communication in verbal and written form, deep engagement with clients, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The title and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research, development, implementation, and expansion of after-tax investment strategies including tax-managed long/short, systematic active and/or factor-based strategies, option overlay, tax-efficient concentrated stock diversification, and after-tax multi-asset solutions.
  • Drive strategy performance diagnostics, calibration, and portfolio management research.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support the commercial success of strategic investment products.
  • Engage with clients and contribute to the composition of research white papers, presentations, and other client materials.
  • Lead and independently execute large-scale quantitative research initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics. Master’s degree or higher is a plus.
  •  5+ years of experience in quantitative portfolio management and research, with a focus on equity long/short, systematic active strategies or factor tilting.
  • Deep understanding in portfolio construction, risk modelling, portfolio analytics, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with option-based strategies, fixed income, or multi-asset optimizations is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and expertise in client engagement.
  • Substantial programming experience in Python and excellent Excel skills. Demonstrated experience working with large datasets and conducting empirical research. 
For San Francisco, CA and Sausalito, CA Only the salary range for this position is USD$215,000.00 - USD$275,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
