Position Summary:

A growing financial institution with approximately $600 million in assets and a significant digital presence is seeking a Vice President, Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a strategic leadership role requiring a seasoned finance professional with a deep understanding of GAAP, banking regulations, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will bring advanced proficiency in Excel, experience with database management tools, and familiarity with Vena Financial Planning and Analysis software. This individual will oversee the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, manage regulatory filings, and collaborate with senior leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, treasury, and investment activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of required reports, including FDIC and state-specific filings
  • Monitor evolving accounting standards and regulatory changes, implementing necessary updates
  • Support internal and external audits to ensure efficient, compliant processes
  • Accounting Operations
  • Direct daily accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, Fedline Advantage, accounts payable, and general ledger maintenance
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, promoting a collaborative, high-performance environment
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Drive annual budgeting and forecasting in partnership with department heads using Vena software
  • Deliver financial analysis, variance reporting, and performance insights to senior leadership
  • Develop complex financial models and projections using advanced Excel techniques and database tools
  • Contribute to liquidity planning and overall cash position strategy
  • Treasury & Investment Support
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on cash management, investment portfolio tracking, and interest rate risk management
  • Provide analytical support for investment decisions, leveraging Excel and database queries for scenario planning
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with teams across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and support organizational goals
  • Provide financial insights for cross-functional projects and business initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial services accounting, including at least 5 years managing accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial institution regulations, and accounting controls
  • Proven ability to design and implement accounting processes and internal controls
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including modeling, pivot tables, and automation (e.g., VBA)
  • Proficiency with SQL, Microsoft Access, or other database tools for financial data analysis
  • Experience using Vena Financial Planning and Analysis software preferred
  • Familiarity with investment analysis and interest rate risk concepts
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong project management skills with a collaborative leadership style
