The Role

SoFi is looking for a versatile and narrative-driven Video Editor to join our internal Creative Studio. We’re moving beyond simple clips and looking for a craft-focused editor who can bridge the gap between long-form episodic storytelling and high-impact social media marketing. This role is perfect for a post-production professional who thrives on taking raw footage—ranging from high-profile sports partnerships to deep-dive financial influencer collaborations—and carving out a compelling, brand-aligned story.

As a key member of our post-production team, you will be responsible for the "final polish." You aren't just cutting clips; you are helping define the visual rhythm of our episodic series and ensuring our sports and influencer content stops the scroll. We are looking for an editor who is technically proficient, highly collaborative, and deeply curious about the future of the craft, including the integration of AI tools into the modern editorial workflow.

What You’ll Do
  • Episodic & Social Storytelling: Lead the edit on recurring digital series, transforming raw interviews and b-roll into engaging episodes. Simultaneously, you will version that content into high-performing assets for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Partnership Integration: Craft content featuring our high-profile sports partners and financial influencers, ensuring their unique voices align seamlessly with the SoFi brand.
  • End-to-End Post-Production: Take ownership of the editorial process, including organizing dailies, assembly, rough cuts, and final delivery. This includes basic color grading and audio sweetening to ensure a professional finish.
  • Collaborative Refinement: Work alongside producers, creative directors, and social strategists to iterate on cuts based on data-driven feedback and creative notes.
  • AI Workflow Optimization: Experiment with and implement AI-assisted tools (such as AI-driven transcription, rotoscoping, or generative fill) to streamline repetitive tasks and elevate creative output.
  • Asset Optimization: Maintain a deep understanding of platform-specific requirements, ensuring every export is optimized for its destination, whether it’s a stadium jumbotron or a mobile feed.
  • Library Management: Ensure all project files and media are organized and archived in our MAM, according to studio standards for easy collaboration and future retrieval.
What You’ll Need
  • Experience: 4+ years of dedicated video editing experience, preferably within a creative agency, media house, or internal brand team.
  • Portfolio: A strong reel or portfolio showcasing a mix of episodic/narrative work and fast-paced social media marketing.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong command of Adobe Premiere Pro. Familiarity with the broader Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, etc.) and a solid understanding of the post-production pipeline.
  • Platform Knowledge: A "social-first" mindset with a deep understanding of what makes content successful on modern platforms (pacing, captions, hook-driven editing).
  • Library Management: Experience with cloud based NAS/MAM and review tools, such as Iconik, Lucid Link, Shade or Frame i.o.
  • Adaptability: The ability to pivot between different visual styles—from the high-energy world of sports marketing to the more educational, "edutainment" style of our influencer partnerships.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project timelines.
    • A collaborative spirit and the ability to remain "ego-less" when receiving creative feedback.
    • Clear communication skills to articulate editorial choices to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
  • Production Background: Familiarity with cinematography or photography (though you won't be expected to be the primary shooter).
  • Motion Graphics: Experience with Adobe After Effects for creating lower thirds, basic titles, or animated call-outs.
  • Industry Interest: An interest in Fintech or the financial world.
  • Technical Curiosity: Experience with AI tools like Topaz, Runway, or specialized Premiere plugins.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
