Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement global sourcing and procurement strategies for $1.4B direct materials, indirect materials and services.

  • Lead Sourcing & Procurement operations (~70 FTE) to deliver operational excellence, productivity (COGS, OPEX) through strategic partnership, scale, value engineering and M&A synergies.

  • Lead Supplier innovation, cost & cash, sustainability, resiliency, risk management & compliance.

  • Lead and develop a high performing Sourcing and Procurement organization. This includes driving a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Drive centralization of direct and indirect procurement services in Global Capability Center in India.

  • Lead NPI planning and procurement execution, processes, and systems

  • Lead company COGS savings program and the transformation of indirect spend management.

  • Drive global compliance through purchasing policy and controls.

  • Develop/implement best practice direct and indirect procurement processes and systems

  • Own and drive strong governance of corporate and/or organizational policies including Purchasing Policy, Consultant Management Policy. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with global sourcing & procurement initiatives in alignment with corporate strategy.

  • Member of Global Operations executive leadership team and partners  across the business with other leaders in research, product development, Quality, IT, Facilities, Finance, and Legal. 

  • Responsible for strategic and tactical planning and execution. Consistently works with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business. Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for major functional areas.

  • Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Influences corporate and industry policymaking.

  • Directs and controls the activities of the following functional areas: direct material sourcing, indirect material/service sourcing, indirect procurement, direct procurement processes/systems, and NPI planning/ procurement through senior leaders who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of those assigned areas.

  • Conditions suppliers regarding Illumina's business objectives at every opportunity.  Reviews performance of critical suppliers regularly and make effective recommendations, for balanced business decisions.

  • Champions strategy and obtains strategic alignment from key stakeholders around new initiatives and development of a shared vision for the organization.

  • Communicates broad business issues actively and enthusiastically, develop a diverse leadership team to drive the business, connect individual/group work efforts to the mission, spirit and strategic intent of Illumina.

Requirements:

  • Ability to develop and implement long term strategies that align with organizational goals.

  • Demonstrates ability to combine data from multiple sources in order to draw conclusions and apply when making decisions.

  • Demonstrated success in supplier management, cost reduction projects, LEAN, on-time delivery, supplier sustainability, or experience in a mature industry/healthcare industry/consulting.

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage by the numbers but not lead by the numbers. Able to drill down into financial details but ensure business success by leading people.

  • Ability to lead and develop teams in a manner that fosters new insights and innovation.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strategy formulation experience.

  • Demonstrates understanding of strategy impact on Illumina.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • ISO 13485 and GMP knowledge.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the financial implications of decisions and projects at the company level.

  • Ability to collaborate with and influence departments throughout the organization.

  • Excellent business, financial and negotiating skills are required along with knowledge of quality systems, lean manufacturing processes and project management knowledge.

  • Customer focused, able to listen, very responsive, and action oriented to meet business needs while maintaining a positive, professional outlook.

  • Strong analytical skills that allow the successful candidate to extract core data from a variety of sources, draw conclusions and insights, and translate those insights into actions.

  • Business acumen; demonstrated ability to understand financial and legal terms.

  • Ability to deal effectively with pressure, multiple tasks, deadlines, and rapidly changing priorities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with requisite interpersonal skills to partner, collaborate and build relationships with business partners, suppliers, and regional teams.

Experience/Education:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent, may require an advanced degree, in Supply Chain or related field

  • APICS or equivalent certification

  • 25+ years Sourcing/Procurement or applicable experience

  • Clinical and/or Diagnostic experience desirable

  • Previous Toll Manufacturing or Contract Manufacturing experience

  • Experience aligning business needs with external suppliers/internal stakeholders.

  • Broad knowledge of all areas within sourcing and procurement. Typically has depth of technical knowledge in function derived from experience in non-management and middle management roles.

  • Requires high level understanding of markets and sales opportunities for the company’s products.

  • Approximately 15+ years in an executive leadership role or equivalent experience.  Minimum 20 years of related experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Vice President, Global Sourcing & Procurement role based in the United States of America is: $266,300 - $399,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
