Vice President, Engineering
Location: Remote (US-based preferred)
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Daniel Rust, CTO
About DevHub
DevHub is a marketing technology platform headquartered in Seattle, WA. We build enterprise-grade CMS solutions that help businesses create, host, manage, and optimize their websites at scale. We combine powerful technology with hands-on service - and that combination is what sets us apart in the MarTech space.
We're a lean, focused team. Everyone here has real ownership and real impact.
About the Role
We're hiring a VP of Engineering to lead and grow our Engineering and DevOps functions. This is a player-coach role — you'll set technical direction, own the software development lifecycle, and roll up your sleeves on architecture and process when it matters.
You'll report to the CTO and hold a key seat on our leadership team, collaborating closely with the VP of Customer Success and VP of Operations to align engineering output with business outcomes.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. It's a role for someone who wants to build something.
What You'll Do
Engineering Leadership
- Own the engineering roadmap in partnership with the CTO, balancing new feature development, platform modernization, and technical debt
- Define and run the SDLC end-to-end: requirements through QA, staging validation, and production deployment
- Set and enforce engineering standards: code review, documentation, testing, and release management
- Act as technical architect on major initiatives including REST API refactors, database modernization, and new dashboard development
- Establish guidelines for responsible AI coding tool adoption within the team
DevOps and Infrastructure
- Own CI/CD pipelines, branch management, deployment automation, and environment management
- Lead infrastructure decisions across Rackspace Cloud and AWS, including containerization (Docker) and database scaling
- Build and maintain a proper staging environment for pre-production testing and validation
- Drive security and compliance initiatives, including SOC 2 readiness
Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow the frontend, backend, and DevOps teams
- Identify hiring needs and lead recruitment for engineering roles
- Build a high-performance, accountability-driven culture with clear ownership
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Customer Success and Operations to scope customer-facing builds and manage delivery expectations
- Establish a repeatable Engineering-to-Services handoff process so new features are demo-ready and deployable without bottlenecks
- Serve as engineering escalation point when the CTO is unavailable
What We're Looking For
Required
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an engineering leadership role (Manager, Director, or VP)
- Hands-on experience with Python-based development and REST API design
- Strong DevOps background: CI/CD, branch management, deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code
- Experience with AWS and/or GCP, including containerization with Docker or Kubernetes
- Experience managing relational and NoSQL databases at scale
- Proven track record of building and retaining engineering teams
- Strong cross-functional communication skills — you can translate technical tradeoffs into plain business language
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
You'll Thrive Here If You
- Have a player-coach mindset: technically credible, without ego
- Bring structure without bureaucracy — you right-size process for the team you have today
- Communicate clearly and honestly, even when the answer is complicated
- Move with urgency but not chaos — you value sustainable delivery over heroic sprints
- Are energized by ambiguity and the opportunity to build something better
