About Us:

Bitwave empowers businesses to seamlessly adopt and manage digital assets with the industry’s most advanced subledger, accounting, and stablecoin payment solutions. We transform financial complexity into a strategic advantage, helping businesses operate with confidence, compliance, and clarity. We aim to be the global standard for enterprise digital asset finance, powering the future with automation, security, and transparency. With audit-ready integrations across today's leading blockchains, exchanges, and ERPs, Bitwave bridges the gap between blockchain technology and enterprise finance.

At the core of our success is an incredibly talented engineering team building specialized software to help support this mission, and we are looking for a VP of Engineering to join our team.

About the Role:

As a small company (less than 50 employees) with a small engineering team (~15 people), our CEO (one of our founders) has been critical to the growth and management of the engineering team. Our goal in hiring a VP of Engineering is to offload the day-to-day oversight and management to someone with both the technical and management skills necessary to help us continue to scale and elevate the team and our products. While the VP title represents the importance of this position to Bitwave’s growth and success, it doesn’t necessarily line up with a very structured VP role that one might find in a Fortune 500 company. The ideal candidate for this position needs to be willing to not only oversee and lead a team of talented software engineers, but they also need to be a highly talented software engineer.

In this role you will:

  • Build and lead a high performing engineering team to include mentoring and managing a high-performing team of engineers, and scaling this team when necessary.
  • Develop and execute technical strategy by helping to define and continually adjust the roadmap, technical vision, and architecture to align with business needs and objectives.
  • Establish and grow engineering processes, best practices, and standards for development, testing, and deployment of software.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and a positive work environment for employees working remotely across the globe.
  • Provide oversight and manage technical and non-technical processes to monitor and ensure necessary controls are in place to maintain our SOC 1&2 certifications remain in good standing.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively, and be willing to take feedback from across the Bitwave team to ensure that we are delivering a successful product on all fronts.
  • Manage engineering resources effectively with a strong focus on cost management and effective allocation.

Qualifications:

*You must be interested in hands-on software development to be successful in this role.*

Technical experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical expertise area
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in building enterprise software and coding
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience working on cloud software
  • Experience with agile tracking tools such as CI/CD, GCP, etc.

Other necessary experience:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing a technical team (bonus points for having lead a fully remote team)
  • Commitment to understanding and prioritizing customers’ needs
  • Ability and willingness to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Prior experience in a start-up environment
  • Interest in digital assets, decentralized finance, and cryptocurrencies

What you don’t need:

  • While experience is helpful, applicants for this role don’t need to have previously held a VP-level position, we care more about your experience than your past title.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
