Where we work

Udemy is headquartered in San Francisco with global offices in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, Türkiye and two other US locations (Denver and Austin). This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role

We’re looking for a sharp, strategic, and commercially driven VP of Consumer Business Development to scale Udemy’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) ecosystem through high-impact partnerships. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of product, platform, and profit and knows how to turn market insights into distribution deals, content bundling, and platform growth strategies on an international scale. 
As the VP of Consumer Business Development at Udemy, you will play a key role in driving growth, engagement, and customer value in our D2C business. Reporting to senior leadership, you will focus on operational execution, strategic guidance, and fostering partnerships that expand Udemy’s consumer presence globally.
Your contributions will directly support Udemy’s mission to transform lives through learning, and be the leader in AI Upskilling and reskilling helping to deliver impactful and personalized experiences for millions of learners worldwide. 

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead the global D2C partnership strategy - identify, negotiate, and launch new revenue-driving alliances (e.g., platform integrations, OEM, content co-creation, bundling) to drive profitable and sustainable growth. 
  • Own the end-to-end deal lifecycle - from market mapping and outreach to commercial terms, contract execution, and post-launch optimization working across and with product and marketing teams. 
  • Drive user growth and LTV through partner channels that boost acquisition, engagement, and conversion across web and mobile.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Content, Legal, and Data teams to ensure partnership success is baked into roadmap planning.
  • Spot trends early and position Udemy at the center of emerging learning consumption behaviors (think creator economy, mobile-first markets, AI-driven personalization).
  • Represent Udemy externally as a thought leader in consumer learning innovation and  partnerships
  • Team Leadership & Operational Excellence -  Mentor team members, foster a culture of innovation and accountability, and report on key growth metrics to leadership.
What you’ll have:
  • 8+ years  of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or platform growth—preferably in consumer tech, streaming, mobile, edtech or online learning.
  • A track record of closing complex, high-impact deals with global consumer brands, platforms, or telcos.
  • Strategic thinker with strong financial modeling and negotiation skills. 
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguous terrain and moving fast without perfect information.
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, platform dynamics, and monetization.
  • Excellent communication, cross functional influencing, and executive presence - you can develop a strategy, sell a vision and ensure teams execute against the plan providing timely updates and status. 
  • Passion for education, innovation, and Udemy’s mission.
At Udemy, we strive to be transparent around compensation. Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for benefits, equity and a bonus. 
Hiring Compensation Range
$263,000$329,000 USD
