Position Overview We’re hiring a Venture Associate to help source, evaluate, and execute investments for SemiAnalysis Capital. This is a hands-on investing role across the full lifecycle of venture capital: developing theses, sourcing companies, meeting founders, conducting diligence, building investment memos, supporting deal execution, and helping portfolio companies after investment.

This is a full-time role based in San Francisco.

We are looking for an intellectually curious and highly driven Venture Associate to help identify, evaluate, and support the next generation of companies shaping AI, semiconductors, infrastructure, developer tools, and frontier technology markets.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining deep research, financial analysis, technical curiosity, and founder engagement. You will work across the full investment lifecycle, from sourcing and thesis development to diligence, deal execution, and portfolio support.

Responsibilities

  • Source, identify, and build relationships with high-potential startups across AI, semiconductors, infrastructure, developer tools, and adjacent technology sectors.

  • Engage directly with founders to understand their products, market opportunities, business models, competitive positioning, and founder-market fit.

  • Conduct investment diligence across market, product, technical, customer, competitive, operational, and financial dimensions.

  • Build financial models, analyze unit economics, evaluate company fundamentals, and support investment scenario analysis.

  • Prepare clear and structured investment memos outlining opportunities, risks, market dynamics, diligence findings, and investment recommendations.

  • Support deal execution processes, including diligence coordination, data room management, legal workflows, closing processes, and internal approvals.

  • Partner with portfolio companies on fundraising strategy, hiring, customer introductions, market positioning, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Contribute to investment thesis development using proprietary research, first-principles thinking, and deep market analysis.

  • Represent the firm across industry events, conferences, technical communities, and founder ecosystems to expand sourcing networks and market coverage.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, corporate development, product strategy, or a similarly analytical role.

  • Strong analytical, research, and financial modeling capabilities.

  • Ability to evaluate companies, markets, and technologies through structured thinking and first-principles analysis.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage credibly with founders, operators, investors, and technical stakeholders.

  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment.

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in AI, semiconductors, infrastructure, and emerging technology markets.

  • Self-starter mindset with strong ownership, initiative, and follow-through.

  • Ability to work full-time from San Francisco.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience at a venture capital, private equity, growth equity, or technology investment firm.

  • Experience evaluating technical products, AI companies, infrastructure startups, developer platforms, or semiconductor-related businesses.

  • Familiarity with startup fundraising, cap tables, term sheets, and venture financing structures.

  • Existing network across founders, operators, investors, or technical ecosystems.

  • Experience preparing investment memos or presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders or investment committees.

  • Technical background, or demonstrated ability to quickly understand complex technical markets, products, and business models.

Growth Areas

  • Gain exposure to high-quality deal flow across AI, semiconductors, infrastructure, and other frontier technology markets.

  • Develop deep expertise in evaluating technology companies through a combination of technical, financial, and market analysis.

  • Work directly with founders, investors, operators, and senior decision-makers across the global technology ecosystem.

  • Build investment theses grounded in proprietary research, industry insights, and first-principles thinking.

  • Take on meaningful responsibility early across sourcing, diligence, execution, and portfolio support.

  • Help build a differentiated investment platform focused on some of the most important technology markets globally.

  • Expand your knowledge across venture investing, startup operations, fundraising dynamics, and strategic growth initiatives.

This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who wants to sit at the intersection of investing, frontier technology, and company building.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
