We are currently looking for a VAPA Assistant (Percussion Coach). Under the supervision of the Band Director, the VAPA Assistant (Brass Coach) will provide technical assistance for district band and brass classes, as well as support for special events. This role is vital in enhancing students' brass playing skills, fostering a positive learning environment, and promoting teamwork within the brass section.

**This is a part-time position up to 30 hours per week.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist with district band and percussion classes during and after school hours, including weekends as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Band Director to develop lesson plans and instructional strategies tailored to percussion students.
  • Accompany band and brass classes to festivals, competitions, and field shows, ensuring that students are prepared and supported during these events.
  • Schedule and conduct individual coaching sessions with students to reinforce techniques and concepts taught in class.
  • Provide constructive feedback and strategies for improvement to help students reach their full potential.
  • Maintain records of student progress and participation.
  • Assist in the organization of percussion section rehearsals, performances, and other related activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and enthusiasm for percussion instruments.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty regarding student progress and program activities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

  • BA/BS in Music preferred; equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing music assistance is preferred.
  • Experience working with High School students preferred.
  • Formal training in percussion techniques and pedagogy is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
