We are currently looking for a VAPA Accompanist. Under the direction of the Choral Director and the Administrative Director, the Accompanist provides piano accompaniment and musical support for choir rehearsals, concerts, festivals, musicals, performances, and related school events. This position works closely with choral director, VAPA staff, and students to support vocal music instruction, rehearsal preparation, and public performances while fostering a positive and professional learning environment.

**This is a part-time position up to 25 hours per week***

What You Will Do:

  • Provide piano accompaniment support for choir rehearsals, concerts, festivals, musicals, performances, and related school events.
  • Accompany students during rehearsals and performances using assigned and approved musical selections.
  • Support student vocal preparation during rehearsals, sectionals, and breakout practice sessions.
  • Assist tenor, bass, and other vocal sections with learning and practicing assigned music.
  • Review, practice, and prepare musical selections prior to rehearsals and performances.
  • Collaborate with VAPA staff regarding rehearsal schedules, performances, music selections, and event preparation needs.
  • Participate in rehearsals scheduled during class periods, after school, evenings, and occasional weekends based on program and performance needs.
  • Record accompaniment or rehearsal tracks for student instructional and practice purposes, as requested.
  • Provide musical support and accompaniment during performance preparation activities leading up to concerts, festivals, and productions.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate interactions with students, staff, and community members.
  • Exercise sound judgment and professionalism while supporting student performers and school productions.
  • Attend scheduled rehearsals, performances, and related events in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or formal coursework in music, piano performance, music education, accompanying, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience accompanying choirs, vocalists, instrumental ensembles, musical theater productions, or classroom instruction preferred.
  • Experience working in a school, educational, youth, or performing arts setting is desirable.
