This role is a 4 month contract with the potential to be extended to 6 months, or hired full time

About Us

webAI is pioneering the future of artificial intelligence by establishing the first distributed AI infrastructure dedicated to personalized AI. We recognize the evolving demands of a data-driven society for scalability and flexibility, and we firmly believe that the future of AI lies in distributed processing at the edge, bringing computation closer to the source of data generation. Our mission is to build a future where a company's valuable data and intellectual property remain entirely private, enabling the deployment of large-scale AI models directly on standard consumer hardware without compromising the information embedded within those models. We are developing an end-to-end platform that is secure, scalable, and fully under the control of our users, empowering enterprises with AI that understands their unique business. We are a team driven by truth, ownership, tenacity, and humility, and we seek individuals who resonate with these core values and are passionate about shaping the next generation of AI.

About the Role

Copy is design here, not decoration. We're building a product where every word earns its place, and we need someone to own writing as a craft across the experience.

Big user research surfaced terminology and naming as a major gap in the app, and right now nobody owns copy as a craft to fix it. This is a concept-stage role, not a fill-in-the-blanks role. You're in the room when features get shaped, working alongside designers and product from the start. You own the voice of the product, what things are called, and how it speaks, including the words our AI generates, not just the words we write by hand.

This role reports into the Director of Design.

Responsibilities

  • Write end-to-end flows and in-product copy across the app: interface text, states, onboarding, system messaging, empty states, error and edge-case language

  • Design features alongside designers and product, from concept, not at the end. Copy and layout get shaped together

  • Own naming, terminology, and messaging. What things are called inside the product is a design decision, and it's yours

  • Develop voice and tonal guidance for features and for generated content. Our product uses AI to produce language, and that language needs a voice and guardrails the same as anything we write

  • Ship copy into the build. You work close to the prototype and the real product, not into a doc someone else implements

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of UX writing or content design experience in product. Strong portfolio of in-product copy across platforms (mobile, desktop, web)

  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills, including information architecture

  • Enthusiasm for an interactive writing process: writing from scratch, editing existing copy, and considering language in the context of the experience around it

  • A point of view on restraint. You can defend cutting a word, and you usually want to

  • Ability to present and defend your writing choices in reviews, including with senior leadership, and negotiate feedback from multiple stakeholders without losing the thread

  • Experience leveraging UX writing systems and familiarity with industry standards

  • Deep fluency with AI and conversational experiences: dialogue, prompts, generated copy, chatbots, AI-driven interfaces

  • Comfortable with design tools like Figma and working close to prototypes, functional specs, and the real build

  • Strong instinct for clarity in technical or complex products

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing voice systems, terminology standards, or content guidelines for a team

  • Background in AI, technical, developer-facing, or infrastructure products

  • Writing optimized for accessibility and localization

  • Experience creating or evaluating training data for language models

We at webAI are committed to living out the core values we have put in place as the foundation on which we operate as a team. We seek individuals who exemplify the following:

  • Truth - Emphasizing transparency and honesty in every interaction and decision.

  • Ownership - Taking full responsibility for one's actions and decisions, demonstrating commitment to the success of our clients.

  • Tenacity - Persisting in the face of challenges and setbacks, continually striving for excellence and improvement.

  • Humility - Maintaining a respectful and learning-oriented mindset, acknowledging the strengths and contributions of others.

Benefits:

We strive to provide competitive benefits to all employees. The benefits listed in this posting generally apply to U.S.-based employees. For employees hired outside the United States, benefits may vary based on local law, country-specific requirements, and the employment platform or entity through which the employee is hired.

  • Competitive salary

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits package

  • 401(k) match

  • Equity options

  • $200/month Health & Wellness stipend

  • Continuing Education support

  • $500/year Function Health subscription

  • Free parking for in-office employees

  • Flexible Time Off (FTO)

  • Parental leave for eligible employees

  • Supplemental life insurance

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
