We are also creating smart roadways, serving the world's largest commercial fleets and rental car companies to manage tolling transactions and violations for over 8.5 million vehicles. And we are a leading provider of connected systems, processing nearly 165 million transactions each year across 50+ individual tolling authorities.

Culture

Verra Mobility Corporation is a rapidly-growing, entrepreneurial company that operates with a people-first philosophy and approach. The company lives by its core values—Do What’s Right, Lead with Grace, Win Together, and Own It—in everything it does for its customers and team members. The company seeks to grow aggressively, both organically and through acquisition, to continue to be the undisputed market leader with these five core competencies: bias for action, customer focus, teamwork, drive for results, and commitment to excellence.

Position Overview:

As a UI/UX Designer within the Government Solutions business, you will play a pivotal role in defining the user experience for our customer-facing products including our cloud-based Back Office system. This role encompasses the full spectrum of user-centered design, from in-depth research and conceptualization to high-fidelity interface design and implementation. You will lead the entire design process, leveraging user insights to develop intuitive, innovative, and visually compelling interfaces that meet both user needs and business objectives. Working closely with product managers, engineers, cross-functional teams, and customers, you will transform complex user requirements into seamless, engaging digital experiences that drive user satisfaction and product success.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end UX design process from start to finish, from initial user research and early sketching through final pixel-perfect Figma files and hand-offs for implementation
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and identify areas for improvement
  • Create detailed design artifacts, including user flows and customer journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, low and high-fidelity designs, and responsive layouts that work across multiple device types and screen sizes
  • Design and maintain a robust design system with consistent visual elements, UI component libraries, and style guides
  • Partner closely with Product Managers to identify product opportunities and refine detailed product requirements
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and provide creative input to enhance product design and functionality
  • Work intimately with engineering teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are feasible and align with business objectives, and quickly iterate based on feedback
  • Champion user-centered design principles across the organization and contribute to the development of design guidelines, best practices, and standards
  • Stay at the forefront of UX/UI design trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Provide support in areas of brand and visual design, ensuring consistency across various digital platforms

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in UI/UX design, with a focus on interaction design and prototyping
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, or similar
  • Experience or strong enthusiasm for 0 to 1 product development, including comfort working in undefined or rapidly evolving contexts
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in designing user interfaces and interactive prototypes
  • Experience with user research, usability testing, and translating insights into design improvements
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the ability to work closely with software engineers
  • Familiarity with design tokens and Tailwind CSS a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  • Knowledge of current UX design trends and technologies
  • Position requires occasional travel to engage with users and participate in team meetings (approx 20% of time)
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship at this time

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
