ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR CAREER TO NEW HEIGHTS? ARE YOU SEEKING A NEW CHALLENGE IN A DYNAMIC SECTOR?

This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.

Outside Labs is building something new: a fast-moving, consumer-facing travel product at the intersection of exploration, curation, and outdoor adventure. We operate like a startup inside Outside Interactive, with the freedom to move quickly and the backing of the most trusted brand in outdoor media.

Outside Interactive reaches 70M+ active, adventurous humans every month across brands like Outside, Backpacker, Trailforks, Gaia GPS, Pinkbike, Velo, and more. We’re now expanding into the next frontier: helping people discover where to go, what to do, and how to plan unforgettable outdoor travel.

We’re looking for a hybrid Product Designer + Front-End React/NextJS Developer who loves working in motion—rapid prototyping, high-velocity iteration, and translating ideas into product experiences that feel alive from day one.  We can’t wait to meet you.

What you will do:

  • Own end-to-end product design: user flows, low-fi sketches, polished UI, prototypes, quick experiments.  From Figma to code.
  • Build what you design — fast. Implement clean, modern front-end code (React/Next.js/Tailwind) to get ideas in front of users immediately..
  • Work directly with the  Outside Labs Product Lead  to shape the product vision, roadmap, and first shippable versions.
  • Help define the user’s journey through discovery, planning, inspiration, and booking.
  • Craft simple, elegant experiences that sit on top of complex datasets (maps, geos, content, partners).
  • Continuously gather insights from lightweight testing, usage patterns, and rapid releases.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and API teams to push boundaries with real-time data, personalization, and geo-driven content.

Who you are:

  • You design with speed and clarity, and you’re comfortable throwing away work that no longer fits.
  • You can turn rough concepts into usable prototypes within hours or days — not weeks.
  • You write modern, maintainable front-end code (React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind).
  • You know how to make interfaces feel good: motion, microinteractions, visual hierarchy, crisp UI.
  • You’re energized by ambiguity, zero-to-one building, and the adrenaline of early-stage problem solving.
  • You thrive in a tight-knit, high-trust environment where everyone ships.
  • You care deeply about craft, but even more about momentum.

Bonus Skills that will make you a stronger candidate:

  • Experience with travel, maps, routing, geo content, or recommendation systems.
  • Experience designing for mobile-first, responsive UIs, or app-like web experiences.
  • Prior startup or incubation experience.

What We Offer:

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $110,000 to $150,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away,  sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Outside Inc is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected characteristics. Pursuant to applicable laws, we also make accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. We believe a diverse team is a strong team, and we encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
