Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

This is a 12-week internship during summer 2026.

Coinbase is seeking interns to join our User Research team to understand user needs for existing products like Coinbase Cloud and tools for developers. You will contribute to unique, large scale, highly complex product problems. You will help researchers, designers, and product managers craft thoughtful experiences to help enable all people to engage with the crypto economy. You don’t need to be an expert on cryptocurrency to join us—we welcome folks at many different moments in their cryptocurrency journey. We only ask that you have a basic knowledge of cryptocurrency and Coinbase’s role in it, and an interest in learning more.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Work on one or more research projects with other researchers, designers, and product managers to investigate a product problem or area
  • Learn how to plan and execute research to solve complex and ambiguous product problems
  • Craft one or more research reports to clearly communicate your findings and make impactful design and product recommendations for the team

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Actively seeking a career in user research
  • Working knowledge of general research principles (experimental design, bias, confounds, etc.) and UX research principles (usability testing, design thinking, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and committed to personal growth
  • Approach problems with positive energy

Nice to haves:

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certificate in a research-related field or pursuing user research extracurricularly while enrolled in a Bachelors program
  • Enjoy thinking about how people interact with products, with a natural curiosity to understand others’ mental models and motivations

Application Requirements:

  1. Final report from a past research project: This can be a school, bootcamp, or consulting/extracurricular project. We’re interested to see how you communicate your findings, as well as how the research goals influenced your choices with methodology, execution, and recommendations. Please upload as a document below
  2. Resume: Include previous work and/or educational experiences

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
