Department Overview
Our cross-functional Devices & Customer Experience team consists of Industrial Design, UI/UX, Design Research, and Human Factors practitioners who design for diverse and challenging markets. Each of these core capabilities contributes within a user-centered design process to leverage our advanced wireless communications, cloud & mobile applications, video, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to envision a new generation of life-changing – and life-saving – products, applications and services. We are user-focused and outcome-driven, identifying problems and creating solutions based on research and engagement with our customers.
Job Description

Our world is changing faster than ever with increasing ambiguity, and speed. We know the value of good research and design in helping our users adapt to these changing conditions, making them safer and more efficient than ever. Our primary customer base includes Public Safety, Enterprise, and Business, with products including portable and mobile communication and data devices.

As a UX Research Intern, you will be part of a community of researchers and designers tasked with overcoming complicated user challenges, transforming them into meaningful and critical experiences. You should already have a strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative research methods and a demonstrated ability to observe users and evaluate system performance across a range of roles, tasks and environmental conditions. You will work with a small, distributed and highly collaborative team to investigate user needs, behavior and workflows, and use research insights to help envision new design solutions that demonstrate sound design practices.
Scope of responsibilities:

  • The User Experience Research Intern will conduct research for end to end solutions for public safety and commercial customers across diverse areas.

  • Collaborate with other researchers to capture and synthesize insights to work with other designers to ideate, prototype and deliver designs.

  • Be someone that will approach the project as part of a greater strategy.

  • The User Experience Research intern is encouraged and expected to innovate and be creative in their approach and implementation.


Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating strong empathy and a passion for understanding user needs.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work with the full range of user experience design professions as well as product management and software development.

  • A rich appreciation for culture and end user work practices should complement your strong knowledge base in research and design.

  • Innate ability to understand complex systems, problems and workflows and ability to see the big picture

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team while handling multiple tasks or projects ​


Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Research planning: Understand business questions and design research plans into testable research goals, select appropriate research methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), and create study plans. 

  • Research tool proficiency: Practical, hands-on experience with common UX research tools, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies such as in-depth user interviews, concept and prototype testing, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, moderating focus groups, survey research.

  • Data analysis & synthesis: Organize data and translate research findings into actionable insights with attention to detail.

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
