Summary

GeneDx is seeking a User Experience Researcher to join our growing Customer Experience & Product team. In this role, you will lead end-to-end research initiatives across multiple channels and product experiences—digital and print—that support patients, healthcare providers, and internal teams. Your work will play a critical role in shaping the design of our provider and patient portals, websites, collection kits, test reports, marketing collateral, and internal tools.

This role is for someone who is curious, empathetic, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple research projects independently from planning through delivery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute end-to-end UX research projects: Independently plan, design, and run research studies across digital and physical touchpoints, including portals, websites, kits, printed collateral, and internal tools.
  • Present research findings as an expert storyteller: Create clear, engaging narratives that translate complex findings into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Use a broad range of research methodologies: Conduct usability tests, surveys, card sorts, tree tests, interviews, intercepts, competitive analyses, and contextual inquiries to uncover actionable insights.
  • Synthesize insights across multiple data sources: Integrate UX research findings with internal data, analytics, market research, and SEO insights to deliver a cohesive understanding of user needs and behaviors.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with key partners: Work closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and Business Stakeholders to align research with product goals and testing strategies.
  • Manage and nurture user research communities: Recruit and engage with internal panels of patients and providers. Collaborate with the GeneDx Advisory Board to gather clinical expertise and real-world feedback.
  • Identify research opportunities proactively: Stay informed about product roadmaps and upcoming initiatives. Recommend and execute research that addresses gaps in knowledge or user experience.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • 3-5 years of UX Research experience, ideally in healthcare, healthtech, life sciences, or another regulated industry.
  • Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Experience with research tools like UserTesting, Qualtrics, or similar platforms.
  • Experience evaluating UX prototypes for usability
  • Proven ability to independently manage and execute research projects end-to-end.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for telling stories with data, research, and visuals.
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments, especially with product, design, commercial, and executive teams.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

Science - Minded, Patient - Focused.

At GeneDx, we create, follow, and are informed by cutting-edge science. With over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases, and pioneering work in the identification of new disease-causing genes, our commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and is focused on enhancing patient care.

Experts in what matters most.

With hundreds of genetic counselors, MD/PhD scientists, and clinical and molecular genomics specialists on staff, we are the industry’s genetic testing experts and proud of it. We share the same goal as healthcare providers, patients, and families: to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful answers we all can trust.

SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.

From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
  • Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
  • Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
  • Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
