As a UI/UX Designer at TeachFX, you'll create user-centered designs, develop prototypes, conduct user research, and collaborate with engineering to launch educational products.
The summary above was generated by AI

The role:

TeachFX is a growing, mission-driven startup; our AI coach helps teachers improve their instruction. As UI/UX Designer at TeachFX, you'll contribute significantly to every pixel and interaction of our product, serving educators and celebrating the craft of excellent teaching. Reporting directly to our Chief Product Officer, you’ll be working on the cutting edge of how to design human-centered AI-driven technology, and as one of the first designers on the team you’ll have enormous impact. This can be either a full-time or part-time role, depending on candidate availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a range of artifacts: low-fi concepts, user flows, design templates, wireframe prototypes, and high fidelity, pixel-perfect designs.

  • Employ user-centered design principles to create intuitive, impactful user experiences.

  • Create, test, and evaluate hypotheses about user behavior through rapid iteration.

  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative research to understand user needs and determine the product design direction.

  • Partner with engineering to adjust scope and launch products to spec.

  • Work from SF Bay co-working spaces (both in San Mateo & SF) once a week.

Who you are:

You must:

  • Have 3+ years of professional experience with a portfolio of beloved user experiences and a few teammates that would call you the best – or one of the best – designers they’ve ever worked with.

  • Have great attention to detail.

  • Be highly proficient with Figma.

  • Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

  • Be knowledgable and curious about UX best practices, finding inspiration from wildly diverse products and experiences.

  • Love rapid, playful iteration on UI designs, with an understanding of layout, hierarchy, and typography and experience using AI tools to accelerate prototype and design work.

  • Thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial culture, comfortable with ambiguity and change.

  • Be excited by our mission to serve teachers, understand teachers’ day-to-day challenges, and celebrate the craft of teaching.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative user research.

  • Experience designing educational content, mobile apps, or products for educators.

  • Experience teaching in K-12 classrooms.

More about us:

TeachFX is best way for teachers to improve their craft.

Using our app, teachers record themselves teaching any class, using a phone or computer. Minutes after class, the teacher receives a lesson report, featuring a lesson summary, a lesson image, and AI-powered insights that help teachers reflect and improve. These insights such as: "How much did I talk compared to my students?" "What academic language did students use?" "How many times did I ask open-ended questions? Or give specific praise?"

Teachers can set a teaching practice to focus on, earn badges, share moments with fellow teachers, and see their growth over time. In contrast to most edtech tools, we aren’t just giving teachers content or test data. Our app improves how teachers teach.

Backed by best-in-class investors including Ulu Ventures, Newfund, Brighteye Ventures, Reach Capital, Pearson Ventures, and Osage Venture Partners, we're bringing together the best of computational linguistics, machine learning, and education research to superpower teachers. Our mission, unique ML IP, and proven results from RCTs have led to collaborations with researchers at Stanford and other leading universities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
