This is a fully on-site position based in our Playa Vista, CA office, Monday through Friday.
About the team and position
As a UI Designer at Carvana, you are responsible for elevating the craft, clarity, and consistency of our digital experiences. You translate defined product requirements and interaction concepts into polished, scalable, system-aligned interfaces.
You play a key role in setting and maintaining the quality of our global Carvana design standards across multiple product orgs and surfaces, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and visual excellence throughout the ecosystem.
Partnering closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Engineering, you bring strong visual judgment and systems fluency to ensure experiences are cohesive, production-ready, and aligned to our design system standards.
What you’ll be doing
- Design high-quality UI for initiatives of all sizes across web and mobile experiences
- Translate product requirements and interaction flows into polished, production-ready interfaces
- Apply and extend the design system to ensure consistency and scalability
- Ensure layouts, typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy meet system and accessibility standards
- Leverage a deep understanding of UX principles to thoughtfully extend UI patterns while preserving usability and system integrity
- Create high-fidelity mock-ups, interactive prototypes, and clear design documentation
- Partner closely with other Product Designers to refine flows and ensure strong UI expression
- Collaborate with Engineering to support implementation accuracy and resolve UI edge cases
- Identify UI inconsistencies and propose improvements to patterns and components
- Contribute to evolving our design system through component enhancements and documentation
- Maintain precision and detail throughout execution, including states, responsiveness, and accessibility considerations
What you should have/know
- 3–5+ years of experience in Product Design or UI
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects independently with consistent quality
- Deep understanding of layout, typography, color, spacing, and visual hierarchy
- Strong foundation in user-centered design, interaction design, and systems thinking
- Proficiency in Figma and modern design and prototyping tools
- Ability to clearly articulate design rationale and collaborate effectively across disciplines
- Strong design craft with a high bar for visual quality
- A background in visual design is a plus
- Experience working within and contributing to design systems
