About Contest Every Race (CER)

Contest Every Race is a program of Movement Labs. Our mission is to make Democrats competitive everywhere, and we do that by building durable political power from the ground up. We are the leading rural down-ballot recruitment and county-level organizing program for the Democratic ecosystem. Our recruitment program runs in 40 states, and our county-level organizing program includes 390 counties across the country. We pride ourselves on providing measurable results. A 2024 experiment demonstrated an increase of over 5,000 votes for Democrats at the top of the ticket thanks to our programs.

Movement Labs is an incubator and consulting firm that uses technology, data and experimentation to stop fascism and build progressive power. We help progressives win and defeat MAGA extremists through year-round work grounded in research and real-world testing. Our team partners with leading advocacy groups, grassroots organizers, and electoral campaigns to develop innovative tactics, win elections, and shift power for the long term.

The Distributed Neighborhood Captains Program:

The Distributed Neighborhood Captains program is a field turnout effort that recruits and supports volunteer captains across hundreds of counties nationwide. Each captain owns a list of roughly 50 voters in their own community, making repeated contact with them ahead of the election. This role supports the training infrastructure that makes that program run.

About the Role:

This role reports to the Distributed Neighborhood Captains Training Manager and will assist with, and independently lead, virtual trainings for volunteer captains across the country. This is a front-of-house, people-facing role: you'll be the voice and energy behind trainings that keep volunteers engaged, confident, and excited to do the work. You'll help design training content, but the core of this role is delivery, showing up, again and again, ready to hold a room (even a virtual one) and make people feel welcome, prepared, and part of something bigger.

No prior campaign or organizing experience is required. We're looking for people skills and performance instincts first and you’ll learn the campaign-specific knowledge on the job.

Who We're Looking For:

We're to bring on a team of people who are outgoing and genuinely energized by talking to and teaching others, who can walk into a virtual training with a camera-off, muted audience and turn it into a room full of people leaning in. You should be comfortable performing and presenting in a virtual environment, quick on your feet when a training doesn't go as planned, and able to adapt your style to different audiences, from first-time volunteers to seasoned captains.

This role requires real flexibility: trainings happen across time zones and days of the week, including evenings and weekends, and we need someone who can reliably show up across a variety of scheduled slots, sometimes with short notice.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring energy and personality to every virtual training so that volunteers are excited to show up, speak up, and get involved
  • Assist in designing and refining training content and materials alongside the Training Manager
  • Independently lead 2-4 live virtual trainings for volunteer captains across dozens of states and hundreds of counties in a day, including shift opportunities on nights and weekends – Up to 20 hours a week.
  • Adapt training delivery to different audiences and settings, including rural and exurban volunteer bases
  • Support office hours and peer learning sessions for captains
  • Maintain a flexible, reliable training schedule, including evenings and weekends during peak season
  • Gather and relay feedback from trainings to help continuously improve the curriculum

Requirements
  • Outgoing, charismatic, and comfortable presenting to a virtual audience
  • Experience in theater, podcasting, teaching, customer service, food service, or similar performance/people-facing work
  • Time-flexible and reliable, able to commit to a varied training schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience facilitating on virtual platforms (Zoom, Google Meet)
  • Adaptable and proactive, comfortable adjusting on the fly
  • Genuine enjoyment of teaching, coaching, or public speaking
  • Volunteer management  or prior organizing experience (not necessarily in campaigns) is a plus but not required
  • Rural community experience or familiarity is a plus, but not required

Benefits
  • This is a temporary, hourly, part time position, $23/hour with accrued paid sick time.
  • The start date is ASAP and the end date is November 15, 2026
  • Remote‑first culture with teammates across the country
  • This position includes possible on-call requirements
  • This position is not eligible for the collective bargaining unit

We’re looking for candidates with a wide range of skills and experience. If you’re excited about the job, even if you don’t match all the characteristics, we encourage you to apply.

Movement Labs & CER are an equal‑opportunity employer. We value a team that reflects the communities we serve and strongly encourage applications from women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, veterans, people with disabilities, and people from rural communities.

The application process includes the application form, an exercise, and one interview with the team. Due to the nature of our work, the process is moving quickly, and we hope candidates will start by September 7, 2026. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States. We are not able to provide sponsorship at this time.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
