This position is ideal for a seasoned Java professional with a deep understanding of modern web technologies and a passion for building robust, scalable solutions. While a strong background in Java is essential, you'll also have the opportunity to expand your expertise in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), a platform built on Java, and become a leader in its implementation.

The ideal candidate possesses exceptional communication skills, a proven ability to drive technical strategy, and a knack for fostering a collaborative environment within web development.

You will:

  • Provide effective leadership and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team focused on web development projects.
  • Serve as a strong technical and business representative for the web development team.
  • Demonstrate expert-level understanding of delivering robust and scalable web solutions, with a strong emphasis on Java-based architectures.
  • Mentor and guide junior and senior Java and web development tech leads.
  • Contribute to and review solution approaches and estimations for web development projects.
  • Contribute to and review technical knowledge documentation.
  • Identify and recognize high-performing team members.
  • Create and review architectural diagrams and flow charts for web applications and websites, often leveraging Java-centric design patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in Java development, including advanced concepts, design patterns, and RESTful web services.
  • Leverage and provide guidance on Java Frameworks such as Spring, Guice, object mappers, and those specifically used in AEM like Sling and JCR, in building web solutions.
  • Utilize and manage Git/Bitbucket for version control.
  • Work effectively with Atlassian project management tools including JIRA and Confluence.
  • Provide proficient technical leadership on large commercial website and web application projects.
  • Apply strong fundamental and practical knowledge of front-end web technologies including HTML, CSS, Vanilla JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and address cross-platform issues, DOM manipulation, and adherence to W3C Web Standards.
  • Lead and maintain effective communication within in-office and distributed web development teams.
  • Understand website operations and demonstrate fluency in the typical tiers of a high-traffic website.

You have:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Lead or in a similar leadership role, with a strong focus on Java-based web development.
  • Deep understanding and extensive practical experience with Java development, including enterprise-level applications and RESTful web services.
  • Extensive experience with key Java Frameworks such as Spring, Guice, and object mappers.
  • Familiarity with or a strong desire to learn and specialize in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) architecture, leveraging your Java expertise.
  • Strong technical background in front-end web technologies including HTML, CSS, Vanilla JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Experience with Git/Bitbucket for version control and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence) for managing development tasks.
  • Solid understanding of cross-browser compatibility, cross-platform issues, DOM, and W3C Web Standards.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills within the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience in creating and reviewing technical documentation and architectural diagrams.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and tools.
  • (Preferred) Experience with GraphQL.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
