At Vantage, we're passionate about building a cloud cost transparency platform that helps enable everyone – from developers to enterprises – analyze, report, collaborate on and optimize their cloud infrastructure costs. Both our CEO (a repeat founder) and CTO are passionate about cloud infrastructure. Having worked together at DigitalOcean, they are taking their combined knowledge to build and scale the Vantage platform. Together we are a high output team of ~60 employees based out of New York City (but embrace the remote-friendly lifestyle).

Our current customers include Square, FanDuel, Barstool Sports, PBS, Planetscale, Vercel and Temporal. Vantage is also well capitalized and backed by outstanding top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Scale Ventures, Matthew Prince (Co-Founder, Cloudflare), Calvin French Owen (Co-Founder, Segment), Ben and Moisey Uretsky (Co-Founders, DigitalOcean), Stephanie and Nat Friedman (CEO, Github), Julia Lipton, Brianne Kimmel and others.

About the Role

Vantage is in the growth phase of the business, and pipeline is the north star metric that our marketing team looks to influence and drive. We’re looking to expand our small-but-mighty technical writing team to help take a growth-oriented approach to technical writing to drive top-of-funnel. This isn’t a traditional technical writing position as the content you’ll be writing will help not only drive the top of the funnel but also help influence our AEO strategy.

As a writer for Vantage, you will analyze cloud infrastructure patterns, find opportunities for cost optimization and share them with our audience, and own the responsibility of producing high-quality content that is appealing to engineering and finance professionals. As a dedicated technical writer, you will have the space to research cloud infrastructure topics, analyze spending patterns in our own dataset, and build interesting demos at the intersection of infrastructure as code and software engineering.

What You Will Do:

  • Stay on top of the latest news coming from AWS, Azure, GCP, and others to find interesting topics to cover in depth, especially around cost optimization

  • Draft and internally share blog posts, quarterly reports, and Cloud Cost Handbook articles

  • Work with our design team on graphics for content

  • Collaborate with marketing teams at partner organizations on shared pieces of content

  • Turn ideas from sales and product teams into working drafts

  • Analyze the performance of content and iterate on copy, topics, and publishing tactics to ultimately drive demo requests, sign-ups, and top of funnel activity for Vantage.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of content creation, ideally for companies that target developers and technical users

  • Interested and passionate about the topics you cover, with aspirations to have your content widely consumed

  • Metrics-driven - you are analytical by nature and like to review progress by tracking reports regularly.

  • Seeking to always improve as a writer and interested in the craft of technical writing

  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to empathize with users

  • Self-managing and motivated. While you’ll have a manager, this is a high-autonomy position.

  • A kind person.

Nice to Have

  • Ability to write simple SQL and do some data analysis to provide hard data to back up topics

  • Familiar with HTML and CSS, with an understanding of what good web layout looks and feels like

  • Familiar with cloud infrastructure as an industry and DevOps as a profession

  • Strong written communication skills, particularly when it comes to writing for the web and for social media

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
