Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with software developers, product managers, and designers to document new features and upcoming product releases.

  • Write clear, accurate, well-structured, and consistent technical content from scratch.

  • Use the product, test each procedure and workflow, become an expert user, and provide feedback to the product development teams.

  • Participate actively in team meetings and advocate for user needs through documentation strategy, user feedback, and analytics.

  • Align product documentation with broader customer enablement content by working closely with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Manage multiple projects across teams in a fast-paced, iterative environment.


Qualifications:Required
  • 3+ years of experience in writing technical documentation.

  • Proficiency with Docs-as-Code tools and workflows.

  • Strong skills in content planning, information architecture, writing, and editing.

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality documentation on schedule.

  • Experience leading content initiatives and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience writing documentation for SaaS, developer, and/or DevOps audiences.

  • Experience working well remotely within globally distributed teams.

  • Experience creating documentation in an Agile development environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and explain them clearly to a technical audience.

  • A good understanding of programming concepts, preferably with Go and/or Python.

  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Preferred
  • Experience contributing to or documenting open source software projects.

  • Proficiency using the command-line Git

  • Experience working in start-up or fast-growth environments.

  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages.

  • Experience working in a start-up environment.Familiarity with developer-focused platforms and tools such as Terraform, AWS, Jenkins, Netlify, GitHub, MongoDB, Twilio, and Docker

What to expectFirst 30 days
  • As a fully remote company, Docker has a focus on keeping teams connected. Your first two weeks will include 1:1 sessions intended to introduce you to your team and key collaborators.

  • You’ll complete onboarding activities including IT setup, navigating productivity tools, and getting familiar with your recurring meetings and calendar cadence.

  • Begin building an understanding of Docker’s “Docs-as-Code” workflow.

  • Get to know Docker’s values, goals, leadership, teams, tools, and internal resources, everything you need to be effective in your role.

  • By the end of your first month, you are comfortable opening pull requests in the Docker Docs GitHub repository.


First 90 days
  • Develop strong working relationships with your team and gain a solid understanding of the Docker ecosystem.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Engineering, Product Management, UX Research, Marketing, and Support on cross-functional initiatives.

  • Gain a deep understanding of the product areas you support and consistently deliver high-quality content that meets our standards.

  • Confidently handle ad-hoc requests, prioritize effectively, and meet documentation deadlines.

One Year Outlook
  • Make significant contributions to the documentation and overall success of your product areas.

  • Build trusted relationships across the Docs team and key stakeholder groups including Engineering, PM, UX, Marketing, and Support.

  • Work with your manager to define a Career Development Plan that outlines your growth beyond the first year.

  • Demonstrate the use of analytics and feedback to make data-informed content decisions.

  • Gain a strong understanding of our customers goals, their workloads, and use cases.
