Job Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to develop, maintain, and manage all technical service publications that support Harbinger’s dealer network, service partners, and internal teams. Areas of responsibility include—but are not limited to—technical bulletins, field service campaigns, owner’s documentation, service manuals, troubleshooting guides, illustrations, and other service-related publications. The Technical Writer plays a critical role in ensuring Harbinger’s service content is accurate, clear, consistent, and aligned with engineering intent, while meeting legal, safety, and compliance requirements. This role requires deep collaboration with Engineering, Service Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Warranty teams. This position demands exceptional communication skills, technical depth, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex information into structured, user-friendly documentation for technicians, dealers, and end customers.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, write, and maintain technical service publications including technical bulletins, service manuals, troubleshooting guides, repair instructions, recalls, campaigns, and field communications.
- Create and maintain owner-facing documents such as Owner’s Manuals, supplemental guides, quick-start materials, and delivery documentation.
- Translate engineering specifications, diagnostic procedures, and product changes into accurate, technician-friendly instructions.
- Work with Engineering and Service Engineering to gather technical information, validate accuracy, and ensure clarity of all published materials.
- Create structured content that is consistent with Harbinger’s editorial standards, style guidelines, and service documentation processes.
- Build and manage documentation templates, ensuring repeatable, efficient workflows and consistent formatting across service publications.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Warranty to ensure publications represent accurate safety, regulatory, and warranty information.
- Maintain controlled document revisions and versioning through Harbinger’s document management system.
- Interface with Service Engineering to incorporate field learnings, diagnostic insights, and corrective actions into updated documents.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to document installation procedures, serviceability notes, and configuration changes.
- Prepare illustrations, diagrams, and step-by-step visuals (or collaborate with illustrators) to enhance technical clarity.
- Support training development by providing content, documentation, and visuals for technician certification programs.
- Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, and cross-functional product meetings to anticipate documentation needs ahead of release.
- Assist with the creation of service tool documentation, special tool instructions, and equipment usage guides.
- Publish documents electronically to the service portal and ensure accessibility, searchability, and clarity for service providers.
- Perform other related duties or participate in meetings as assigned by management.
What You'll Need
- Excellent communicator with superior written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
- Proven experience authoring technical documentation in a service, automotive, EV, or mechanical product environment.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities, particularly in interpreting engineering data and translating it into technician-focused content.
- Demonstrated capacity for project management with the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and “seek to understand” before producing content.
- Demonstrated DWYSSWYD mindset (Do What You Say, Say What You Do) with timely follow-up, proactive communication, and accountability.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with document control systems, illustration tools, or content management systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with changing priorities.
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Creative and flexible problem solver with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience writing documentation for Electric Vehicles (EVs), high-voltage battery systems, or modern vehicle networks (CAN).
- Familiarity with industry standards for technical publications (e.g., S1000D or similar structured authoring methodologies).
- Experience with illustrated parts catalogs (IPCs) or parts information systems.
