About this role

About the Team/Role:
Aladdin Studio is transforming how developers and data engineers interact with the Aladdin ecosystem — enabling teams to build, integrate, and extend the Aladdin platform through open APIs and event-driven workflows.

We’re seeking an experienced Technical Writer with a strong background in API documentation, event streaming, and developer experience to help define and deliver world-class documentation for the Aladdin Studio developer platform.
You’ll play a pivotal role in helping developers and integration partners understand how to connect to Aladdin’s services, leverage streaming data, and build innovative applications on top of our platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain clear, accurate, and engaging documentation for Aladdin Studio’s APIs, SDKs, and event streaming interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and developer experience teams to translate complex technical concepts into approachable guides, tutorials, and reference materials.
  • Document event-driven workflows, including streaming APIs, webhook subscriptions, and real-time data integration patterns.
  • Design and implement content structures that scale across multiple APIs, microservices, and event channels within Aladdin Studio.
  • Contribute to tooling and automation, using OpenAPI/AsyncAPI specs and CI/CD pipelines to generate and version developer documentation.
  • Partner with Studio Product Marketing and Solution Architecture team to create onboarding materials, sample code, and “getting started” experiences for external and internal developers.
  • Continuously improve the discoverability and usability of content within the Aladdin Studio Developer Portal.
  • Champion documentation standards across the Aladdin Product Group, ensuring consistency, clarity, and technical accuracy.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, Developer Advocate, or Software Engineer focused on APIs or event-driven systems.
  • Deep understanding of RESTful and event-streaming architectures (Real-time distributed event streaming platform, Kinesis, or similar).
  • Proven experience writing API and developer documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger or AsyncAPI specifications.
  • Hands-on familiarity with developer tooling such as Git, Postman, Redocly, or similar platforms.
  • Strong grasp of cloud-based integration concepts, including authentication, webhooks, and event publishing/subscription models.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to translate complex systems into developer-friendly content.
  • Proficiency in Markdown, YAML, and basic scripting (Python, JavaScript, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a financial technology or enterprise SaaS environment.
  • Knowledge of data integration, analytics, or asset and risk management workflows within Aladdin or similar ecosystems.
  • Understanding streaming data pipelines and real-time analytics.
  • Familiarity with API lifecycle management, and continuous documentation delivery.
  • Background in computer science, information systems, or related technical field.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to shape the developer experience for the Aladdin ecosystem, a platform trusted by the world’s largest financial institutions.
  • A collaborative, growth-oriented environment within BlackRock’s Aladdin Product Group.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and professional development opportunities.
  • Direct impact on how external developers and partners extend Aladdin’s capabilities through APIs and streaming data.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
