The Technical Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and supporting the infrastructure of our Los Angeles VFX & postproduction studio. With a dual focus on Audio-Visual / postproduction systems and basic IT tasks, this role ensures our VFX, editorial, grading, and finishing suites remain fully operational. The incumbent will be the on-site go-to person for troubleshooting Flame setups, configuring projection and Audio-Visual systems, and assisting with general workstation maintenance and deployments.
Key Accountabilities :
Postproduction Suite Installation and Support
- Install, configure, and maintain editing and finishing environments (Flame, Resolve, Avid, color grading suites).
- Provide on-site technical support for client-facing rooms, projection setups, and AV installations.
- Troubleshoot room-specific hardware and software issues, escalating when needed.
- Calibrate reference monitors and manage AV routing and cable infrastructure.
AV and Technical Infrastructure Maintenance
- Install and maintain projectors, TVs, monitors, and AV devices in review and production spaces.
- Support deployment of postproduction workstations (Linux, macOS, Windows).
- Monitor local equipment and proactively address hardware or software anomalies.
- Ensure technical rooms are clean, functional, and aligned with studio standards.
IT Support and Light System Administration
- Support workstation imaging, software installs, and basic system diagnostics.
- Assist in managing networking issues (patch bays, routers, basic switching).
- Coordinate with IT and Engineering for escalated issues requiring broader infrastructure support.
- Document procedures, equipment specifications, and room configurations.
Facility support
- HVAC & Electrical: Coordinate regular maintenance.
- Security: Manage access, cameras, and alarm systems.
- Desk Setup: Handle workstation setups and moves.
- Shipping: Manage gear shipments between studios and clients.
- Building Comms: Coordinate with owners on repairs, access, and updates.
Operational Readiness and Collaboration
- Work closely with editorial, color, VFX, and sound departments to provide fast, reliable support.
- Ensure that all rooms and systems are ready for use at the start of each production day.
- Prioritize tasks based on production needs and critical support timelines.
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience in postproduction, broadcast, or VFX environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Flame, DaVinci Resolve, and Avid Media Composer systems.
- Proficiency in AV equipment installation and maintenance (projectors, TVs, monitors, patch bays).
- Working knowledge of Linux, macOS, and Windows in a postproduction context.
- Basic system administration skills (networking, workstation imaging, software deployment).
- Strong troubleshooting, task management, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently on-site and under tight production deadlines.
