What is Fizz

Fizz is the dominant social platform for Gen-Z to connect with their immediate communities. Each Fizz community has a private and moderated feed of anonymous posts, authored by verified students at their school, providing the most entertaining, relatable, and interesting conversations about student life.

Students can post questions, memes, polls, and chat with other verified students while maintaining control over their identity and privacy. Fizz communities prioritize safety, authenticity, and inclusion through community-based moderation.

Founded by two Stanford dropouts, Fizz is currently expanding across colleges and high schools across the US with a mission to redefine the “social network” in a time when legacy platforms lack authenticity and are filled with curated highlight reels.

What we’ve done

We launched Fizz at Stanford in July 2021 and saw >95% of undergraduates join the app, half of whom use it every day. Since raising a $25M Series B in July 2023, we’ve expanded to 350+ college campuses, begun monetizing through brand partnerships, and are continuing to scale into new Gen-Z communities across the country.

Where we’re going

Our mission is to make Fizz the go-to community platform for all of Gen-Z, not just college students. We’re building products to serve students beyond campus life, scaling our internal infrastructure to match our growth, and constantly iterating to improve the quality and safety of our communities.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively source active and passive candidates for technical and non-technical roles, especially those who thrive in fast-paced, high-ownership startup environments

  • Conduct initial resume review and candidate outreach, and may participate in prescreening calls

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of candidates for current and future needs

  • Working with hiring managers to understand role requirements

Qualifications
  • 1-2+ years of experience sourcing for high-performing engineering and technical teams, ideally at fast-growing startups

  • A genuine passion for early-stage startups and a strong grasp of our product, users, and mission

  • Solid understanding of the tech recruiting landscape—tools, trends, challenges, and where to find exceptional talent

  • Ability to assess technical skills and team fit

  • Excellent storytelling skills and a passion for communicating a startup’s vision to prospective hires

  • Experience with Ashby or a similar ATS a plus

This is a part-time, contract role for approximately 3 months, with a 10 to 15 hour commitment per week. Pay rate depends on experience, ranging from $30 to $40 per hour.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
