Lead top-of-funnel technical sourcing for engineering, AI, infra, product, and design roles using AI-driven tools and automation. Build repeatable pipelines, map talent pools, design personalized AI-assisted outreach, A/B test messaging, track conversion metrics, and partner with recruiters and hiring managers to calibrate searches.

About the role:

Hex is scaling quickly, and the quality of our team is the single biggest driver of that. We're looking for a Technical Sourcer who treats sourcing as a craft and a system, someone who can build repeatable pathways to finding exceptional technical talent including engineers, designers, and product builders. This isn't a role about running the same LinkedIn playbook - we’re looking for creativity in using AI tooling to unlock sourcing capacity, and find delightful ways to engage passive talent who aren’t even thinking about their next role yet. You'll own how we discover and rediscover talent, and you'll use AI to do it with far more precision, personalization, and leverage than a traditional sourcing motion allows. If you like the idea of being early to a genuinely new way of working and setting the standard the rest of the team learns from, this role is for you.

What you will do:

  • Own top-of-funnel sourcing strategy for our hardest technical searches across Engineering, AI, Infra, Product, and Design, going narrow on niche roles and building stacked funnels for evergreen ones.
  • Build and run an AI-forward sourcing stack: use AI sourcing tools, agents, and automation (e.g. Juicebox, LinkedIn Recruiter, Gem, GitHub, etc.) to power discovery, enrichment, and outreach at the top of the funnel.
  • Design and iterate on AI-assisted outreach that engineers actually respond to: highly personalized, technically credible, and human. You'll build the prompts, templates, and workflows the team reuses.
  • Map deep talent pools and competitive companies to surface "undiscovered" candidates, not just the obvious ones on LinkedIn.
  • Partner closely with recruiters and hiring managers to calibrate profiles in real time, then translate that into precise, searchable criteria.
  • Track conversion and response rates, A/B test messaging, and use data to pivot when a search goes stale.
  • Continuously evaluate new AI sourcing tools and share what works, helping raise the bar for how the whole Talent team sources.

About You:

  • 4+ years of technical/engineering sourcing experience, ideally at a high-growth startup
  • Fluent with AI tooling for recruiting: you've already used (or are eager to master) AI sourcing tools, agents, and automation, and you have a point of view on where they help and where they don't.
    • You've built sourcing programs, pipelines, or AI/automation workflows from scratch rather than inheriting them.
  • Technically literate: you can read a GitHub profile, skim a research paper or engineering blog, and understand what makes someone exceptional rather than just experienced.
  • A precise operator: organized in your systems, calibration, market mapping and pipeline updates
  • Strong "hunter" instincts and comfort with ambiguity; you have urgency about what you do and operate without a ton of instruction
  • Creativity: you’re not bringing the same LinkedIn playbook to attract engineering talent, you think outside the box on how we can create unique touch points that having a lasting impression.
  • You care about the candidate experience: your outreach feels human (even when AI helped write it), you move folks through quickly, you prioritize updating candidates and you know how to advocate for them early in the process.
  • Experience with Ashby, and sourcing tools like Gem, Juicebox, Noon, Metaview, etc.

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.

The salary range for this role is: $120,000 - $150,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
