We are rebuilding biotech for the AI era.
When a breakthrough is delayed, the world waits. Getting a molecule from discovery to patients, or a crop from lab to field, involves thousands of slow, manual, disconnected steps. AI has the potential to change this, compressing decades of R&D work into years. But that only happens when clean, structured scientific data and AI are built into how science gets done.
Benchling is the AI platform for biotech R&D. Scientists use Benchling to design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models directly in their workflows. Over 200,000 scientists around the world trust Benchling to power their most important work, from academic labs to Sanofi, Moderna, and more than half of the world's top 50 biopharma.
We’re building an AI scientist for our customers. We can’t do that if we haven’t built the muscle ourselves. AI fluency is the foundation we build on; it's core to how we work, and we're committed to helping every new hire integrate it into their day-to-day. As part of our interview process, you'll complete a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion so we can understand how you think about and use AI to drive impact in your role. Feel free to reference any tools, platforms, or workflows you use today.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re looking for a Technical Solutions Architect with expertise across life sciences R&D and complex software systems, working as the key technical partner to both customer and internal engineering teams to design and deliver impactful solutions that drive scientific progress.

In this role, you will work with customer developers and IT leaders, using your extensive knowledge of Benchling, modern SaaS technologies, and complex scientific processes to ensure successful integration of Benchling within complex IT ecosystems. You will be responsible for scoping end user requirements, designing solutions, and ensuring the successful delivery of custom automation and integration solutions for Benchling users.

  • Engage cross-functionally with product and engineering to communicate customer feedback, and align proposed solutions with Benchling roadmap and feature availability.

  • Collaborate with project and implementation managers to enable complex rollouts at large enterprise customers, proactively identifying technical risks and product gaps and designing solutions around them.

  • Build and deliver convincing demos or POCs during initial stages of implementation projects to ensure stakeholder alignment, on proposed solutions.

  • Leverage industry and project experience to contribute to Benchling’s technical documentation, and developer platform product roadmap.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S in a life sciences discipline or engineering/computer science

  • 5+ years of client-facing software implementation and/or consulting experience, with demonstrated success managing enterprise-scale SaaS projects.

  • Comfortable using REST APIs and Python to design and build integration demos, and write and share example code with customer Developers.

  • Demonstrated success in technical leadership and conceptual modeling to turn complex and abstract concepts into technical assets.

  • Familiar with modern cloud software development processes, tools, and architectures.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex technical solutions clearly to diverse audiences and work effectively across internal teams.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
