About Northslope

The generational companies of the next century will run on mission-specific AI software that compounds their competitive advantage, not commoditized SaaS. We purpose-build production AI applications that enable our customers to operate at the speed, scale, and margins of an enterprise software company, in any industry.

We're building something fundamentally different: software that's as adaptable as the businesses it serves, created by engineers who understand both code and customers.

The Role

You'll own full-cycle recruiting for Forward Deployed Engineers — customer-facing software engineers who solve complex business problems across industries. These aren't your typical backend developers. Our FDEs combine strong technical skills with the ability to understand customer needs, architect solutions on the fly, and deploy AI applications that transform how businesses operate.

This year, our recruiting team will hire approximately ~100 Forward Deployed Engineers as we scale. You'll be responsible for a significant portion of that hiring, working as an individual contributor on an existing recruiting team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering directly with our Founder/CEO and leadership team to understand hiring needs and business priorities

  • Building and managing pipelines of exceptional engineering talent who thrive in customer-facing, ambiguous environments

  • Crafting sourcing strategies that go beyond LinkedIn — finding engineers in non-traditional places who have the right mindset, not just the right resume

  • Owning the candidate experience from first outreach through offer acceptance and onboarding

  • Designing and refining our interview process to better assess for the qualities that make FDEs successful at Northslope

  • Using data and metrics to understand what's working, identify bottlenecks, and continuously improve our recruiting efficiency

  • Selling candidates on our mission and helping them understand why building custom AI applications is more exciting than working on generic SaaS products

You'll work in a hybrid model with the autonomy to structure your time in whatever way makes you most effective.

What We're Looking For

We need someone who can recruit engineers who don't fit traditional molds—because we're not looking for traditional engineers. The ideal candidate brings:

  • 2+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting experience, with a strong preference for candidates who've been part of a startup's journey from early stage to high-growth

  • Proven ability to hire software engineers in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where the playbook is still being written

  • Experience building trusted partnerships with hiring managers, where you're seen as a strategic advisor who challenges assumptions and improves outcomes, not just someone who sources resumes

  • A track record of creative sourcing — you know how to find talent that others miss and aren't afraid to try unconventional approaches

  • Strong instincts for assessing technical talent beyond credentials, particularly the ability to identify engineers who can navigate ambiguity and communicate effectively with customers

  • Data-driven mindset with experience using recruiting metrics to diagnose problems and drive improvements

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to articulate a compelling vision to skeptical or passive candidates

  • Comfort with technology-agnostic recruiting — you're not fazed when candidates don't fit neat boxes, and you understand that mindset matters more than specific languages or frameworks

  • Excitement about doing whatever it takes to close great candidates, whether that means creative outreach, rapid interview coordination, attending events or hiring surges.

Nice to Have

  • Experience recruiting for customer-facing technical roles like consulting engineers, forward deployed engineers, solutions architects, or technical account managers

  • Background at a company that builds custom software or takes a consulting approach to product development

  • Familiarity with Ashby (our ATS), BrightHire, or Notion

  • Experience hiring across different experience levels, from new grads to senior engineers

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary + equity in the form of stock options — you'll have real ownership in what we're building

  • Competitive benefits package including comprehensive health insurance

  • Flexible hybrid work environment with 1-2 days per week in our New York office

  • Significant autonomy to shape how recruiting works at Northslope as we scale

  • The opportunity to define your own career path as we grow, whether that's moving into people leadership, becoming the go-to expert for a specific geography or candidate profile, or carving out an entirely new role

  • A small, tight-knit team where your work directly impacts our ability to execute on our mission

  • Occasional travel (less than 10% of your time) for company offsites where you'll connect with the broader team and help build our culture

Why This Role Matters

Our ability to grow is limited only by our ability to find and hire exceptional people. As a recruiter at Northslope, you're not just filling seats — you're shaping the DNA of a company that's redefining how businesses use AI. The engineers you bring in will build applications that didn't exist before, solve problems that haven't been solved, and work with customers in ways that break the traditional software model.

If you're energized by building something from the ground up, selling a mission that matters, and recruiting people who don't fit traditional molds, we'd love to talk.

Northslope is committed to building a strong, diverse team. We believe teams with a diversity of lived experience, background, and perspectives create better outcomes for our customers and are just more enjoyable to be part of. We are committed to creating and living a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our work. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, religion, disability, pregnancy, age, military status, marital status, genetic characteristics or information, gender, gender identity, gender variance, or sexual orientation.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
