Technical Project Manager 

Are you an experienced technical project manager looking for a freelance agreement in a professionally-rewarding environment where you continue to learn and are supported by your peers while you help build meaningful projects for appreciative clients?

We're seeking an experienced, sharp freelance Technical Project Manager to help our team to develop websites and web apps for mission-focused organizations like museums, universities, nonprofits, and cities. You would be coming onboard to a supportive team that values your contribution, and where we work together to help our clients make the world a better place. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive technical project management experience, preferably in digital agency environment.
  • Solid grasp of Agile practices including managing Scrum/Kanban processes. Understands the value of agile processes/artifacts and has mentored others.
  • Strong proficiency with Drupal or WordPress.
  • Strong client presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working at a digital agency or consulting firm.
  • Ability to prepare concise and clear professional memos and documentation.
  • Minimum of 5 years technical leadership and business process management.
  • Minimum of 5 years business application knowledge with an emphasis on software development, operational efficiency, and release management. 
  • Proven ability to make decisions resulting in the successful implementation of technical process or operational changes. 
  • In-depth knowledge of business process development / controls and mapping work-item execution status to organizational objectives.
  • Previous development experience is a benefit.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / related field or equivalent experience.
  • For remote work: Previous experience successfully working remotely, and physical location in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technically complex programs and projects for end-users from discovery through maintenance and support.
  • Work as part of a team to build responsive websites and web applications.
  • Work directly with clients to help them achieve their goals.
  • Guide clients through our documented planning, design, implementation, quality assurance, and launch process.
  • Participate in and lead weekly team meetings.
  • Create requirements documents, technical specifications, project schedules, project documentation, and other deliverables.
  • Independently creates and iteratively improves project and program processes for teams/programs within their scope.
  • Manage project schedule, budget, resourcing, and scope.
  • Assign and shepherd work tickets, collaborating closely with developers.
  • Works with engineering and suggests options for reducing cost either through scope changes or creative engineering approaches.
  • When issues arise, identify the correct teams to analyze and resolve. Drives incident investigations and communicates status clearly to stakeholders. 
  • Evaluate new technology frameworks and systems.
  • Help agency identify opportunities with existing clients to either expand scope of work or pursue new projects.

Location & Availability

  • Work from any location in the United States, available 9am - 5pm in any U.S. time zone.
  • Our office is located in sunny Los Angeles, CA. This position is available for fully remote (U.S. and Canada ONLY), partially remote (a few days in the office), or in-person in our L.A. Office.

Freelance Work Expectations

This role is currently freelance, with the potential to convert to a part or full-time role as business needs evolve. While there is no guaranteed minimum weekly hours, we anticipate up to 20 hours of billable work per week to start, following comprehensive onboarding.

Compensation

The hourly billable rate for this role ranges from $40-$50, depending on experience, qualifications, and scope of work. As a freelancer, this role is not eligible for company benefits
