The Role: Technical Program Manager III

As a Technical Program Manager III, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale data center construction programs. This role exists to ensure projects are executed on schedule, within scope, and aligned with Switch standards.

You will operate independently with full ownership of assigned programs, coordinating multidisciplinary teams across design, construction, procurement, and operations. Your work directly impacts project delivery, operational readiness, and long-term infrastructure performance.

This position may require the candidate/employee to undergo additional background checks and drug screenings prior to and during the course of employment in support of customer-specific deployments.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the full lifecycle of hyperscale data center construction programs from pre-construction through commissioning and handover
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and milestones
  • Track performance across scope, schedule, and cost commitments
  • Identify risks early and maintain program risk registers
  • Own mitigation strategies and track issues through resolution
  • Manage change control processes, including scope, cost, and schedule impacts
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and design intent
  • Coordinate RFIs, submittals, field changes, and design clarifications
  • Partner with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, project requirements, and applicable codes
  • Track critical path activities and maintain reporting dashboards
  • Provide clear updates to leadership on progress, risks, and required decisions
  • Facilitate coordination across Pre-Construction, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams
  • Support project closeout, including punch list completion and operational readiness
  • Travel up to 30% as required

30% travel required

What We’re Looking For
  • You take full ownership of program outcomes
  • You anticipate risks before they impact delivery
  • You remain effective under pressure in high-stakes environments
  • You communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams
  • You manage complexity while maintaining execution focus
  • You influence stakeholders without direct authority
  • You deliver consistent, predictable results
What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience managing construction or infrastructure projects
  • Experience delivering projects from pre-construction through handover
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, milestones, and field execution
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, and change orders
  • Experience with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Procore, or Smartsheet
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in data center or mission-critical construction environments
  • Experience in hyperscale or large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with commissioning and integrated systems testing
  • PMP certification

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
