Position Summary
MasterControl is seeking a Principal Technical Product Manager to own the vision, strategy, and delivery of our enterprise search platform. This platform underpins keyword search, filtering, and field-scoped discovery across all MasterControl SaaS applications. The ideal candidate has extensive experience building and scaling search systems using Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL, and a deep understanding of SaaS platform requirements including indexing, performance tuning, secure data access, and observability.
This role will serve as the strategic and technical lead for search, collaborating with Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, Security, and Product teams to deliver robust, scalable, and compliant search capabilities to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the product roadmap for MasterControl’s search infrastructure and services.
- Translate platform-level and application-level search needs into technical capabilities and system design requirements.
- Work closely with engineering teams using Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL to implement performant, scalable, and reliable search APIs and indexing processes.
- Ensure that search capabilities support full-text, substring, scoped, and field-based querying across objects and records.
- Drive prioritization of features such as keyword tokenization, match ranking, GraphQL integration, indexing observability, and auditability.
- Collaborate with application Product Managers to ensure consistent and intuitive search UX across MasterControl products.
- Partner with Security and Compliance teams to implement permission-aware search, RBAC/ABAC enforcement, and audit logging.
- Define and track SLAs and KPIs for search relevance, query latency, and index freshness.
- Act as the internal SME and external-facing leader for all search-related customer conversations.
- Stay ahead of industry trends in search, including semantic search, multilingual search, field boosting, and federated architectures.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in technical product management or platform leadership roles with a focus on search infrastructure in enterprise SaaS platforms.
- Proven success in building and scaling search platforms using Elasticsearch, Lucene, or similar distributed search engines.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience integrating search platforms with relational databases.
- Familiarity with GraphQL and REST API design principles.
- Deep understanding of indexing, tokenization, query parsing, relevance scoring, and query optimization.
- Track record of delivering performant, secure, and scalable search solutions across multi-tenant environments.
- Experience with RBAC/ABAC, permission-aware search, and regulatory compliance in data systems.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive consensus.
- Experience defining, tracking, and reporting product KPIs (e.g., search latency, result relevance, index lag).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in regulated industries such as life sciences, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals.
- Familiarity with SaaS platform architecture and DevOps tooling.
- Knowledge of observability stacks (e.g., Grafana) for monitoring search infrastructure.
- Experience with enterprise-scale GraphQL implementations.
- Prior involvement in search innovation projects (e.g., semantic search, AI-driven relevance tuning).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily sedentary work with frequent use of computer, keyboard, and mouse.
- Occasional lifting or moving of computer equipment or other objects up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Standard office environment with potential for remote work.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000-$270,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
