Position Overview

We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented Technical Product Designer - Soft Goods to support product concept development, materials research, and R&D product and graphic design. This role blends hands-on design execution with deep knowledge of materials, testing, and manufacturing considerations. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Adobe and other design tools, comfortable working from concept sketches to production-ready specifications, and capable of ensuring our products meet both functional and aesthetic brand standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design & Concept Development

  • Create and refine product concepts in line with brand strategy and design language.

  • Produce technical drawings, renderings, and illustrations using Adobe and other design tools.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and suppliers to develop prototypes and evaluate feasibility.

Materials Research & Testing

  • Research and recommend suitable materials based on durability, performance, and cost criteria.

  • Conduct and coordinate material testing for quality, compliance, and performance.

  • Maintain a library of approved materials, finishes, and suppliers.

Brand & Design Language Compliance

  • Ensure all designs adhere to the company’s established visual identity and brand design standards.

  • Review prototypes and production samples for compliance with branding and design intent.

  • Partner with marketing and creative teams to align product aesthetics with overall brand storytelling.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs.

  • Partner with operations to ensure materials are available, compliant, and sustainable where possible.

  • Participate in supplier reviews and production readiness checks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial design, product development, or materials engineering.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar).

  • Strong knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes, and testing protocols.

  • Experience working with brand compliance standards and design systems.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Experience in consumer products, lifestyle goods, or soft goods design.

  • Knowledge of material sourcing and safety compliance standards.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative design environment.

  • Strong visual design sensibility with a practical, production-minded approach.

Compensation Range: $80K - $105K
