Technical Marketing Writer

Spectra Logic, a leader in data management and storage solutions, is seeking a hands-on Technical Marketing Writer to create authoritative, technically rigorous content, develop external thought leadership, and articulate compelling technical points of view. This individual contributor role focuses on producing long-form technical content and helping establish Spectra Logic as a leading voice in the information technology industry.

You will identify relevant and trending industry topics, conduct research, and collaborate with technical experts to produce whitepapers, bylined articles, in-depth blogs, and other expert content. You will also evangelize these ideas through webinars, conference presentations, videos, and other thought-leadership channels.

The ideal candidate combines strong writing skills with deep, customer-facing technical knowledge of data storage technologies, architectures, issues, and applications, along with a clear understanding of the operational and business challenges organizations face when managing data at scale. You are passionate about translating complex technologies and real-world customer pain points into clear, credible, and compelling narratives for technical and non-technical audiences. In this role, you will help drive the company’s technical messaging strategy, expand awareness among new audiences, educate customers, partners, and employees, and represent Spectra Logic as a subject matter expert.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Long-Form Technical Content Creation
Research, write, and publish authoritative technical content including whitepapers, reference architectures, technical articles, and blogs. You will personally author these assets from concept through publication.

Thought Leadership & Technical Points of View
Develop and communicate informed perspectives on industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving data management challenges through bylined articles, blogs, and technical commentary.

Technical Evangelism
Translate written thought leadership into engaging webinars, conference presentations, videos, and other educational formats. Serve as a credible, public-facing technical voice for the company.

Customer-Centered Storytelling
Work with field teams and technical experts to understand real-world customer challenges and translate those insights into technically accurate, compelling narratives that demonstrate measurable value.

Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration
Partner with engineering, product management, solutions architects, field technical teams, and customers to deliver content reflects real-world architectures, deployment considerations, and evolving product capabilities.

Technical Sales Enablement
Develop technically detailed materials — such as solution briefs, technical presentations, and competitive insights — that support sales engineers and partners in knowledgeable customer conversations.

Modern Content Development Practices
Leverage AI and productivity tools to support research and drafting while maintaining technical accuracy, originality, and clarity.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE

10+ years of experience in technical marketing, technical writing, sales engineering, solutions architecture, or a related enterprise IT role.

Strong technical understanding of data storage technologies, infrastructure architectures, and data lifecycle management challenges, including familiarity with customer environments and deployment realities.

Demonstrated experience personally authoring long-form technical content such as whitepapers, technical articles, and in-depth blogs. Candidates should be prepared to provide non-confidential writing samples.

Ability to understand and clearly communicate customer pain points, operational challenges, and industry trends in a technically credible and engaging way.

Experience presenting technical material through webinars, conferences, videos, or customer-facing sessions.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both deeply technical and broader IT audiences.

Self-directed and comfortable managing projects independently from concept through final delivery.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.

Compensation:   160 - 180K While this salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, a candidate’s actual salary will be competitive based on a variety of factors including the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience within in the range

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
