Join ENTRUST as a Technical Lead focused on Microgrid & BESS Design Engineering. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive IFC Design documents and project engineering support for our distributed energy and microgrid projects. Projects typically include managing a variety of DER and microgrid assets such as solar, energy storage, controls, and reciprocating engines. This position offers remote and hybrid options.

This role requires strong knowledge of industry standards (NEC, UL, ISO) and hands‑on experience designing system‑level schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation for BESS installations. The position involves close collaboration with project managers, technicians, and stakeholders to deliver successful projects, including performing factory acceptance tests and on‑site commissioning. Candidates should have a solid technical foundation in distributed energy technologies—such as solar, battery systems, and reciprocating engines/turbines—as well as experience with microgrid controls, demand management, BTM storage, EV charging infrastructure, and renewable generation modeling. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong project management capabilities, an understanding of DER integration and utility‑interface best practices, and familiarity with control strategies that optimize microgrid performance and economics. Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience preparing interconnection applications and reviewing utility studies are also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with switchgear manufacturers (and other OEMs) like Schneider Electric or Eaton to develop innovative designs and costing that are scalable to many jobs and customer sites. This includes working at voltage levels of 13.8kV, 4160V, 480V, and 208V depending on site and system size
  • Provide significant input to the solar, battery, and generator designs to optimize performance, reliability, and sustainability for each customer site
  • Lead on the full life-cycle of BESS and DER project design, guiding projects from conceptual design through to full system design.
  • Interface with equipment and technology vendors.
  • Use AutoCAD in order to carry out permit ready and IFC deliverables. Including but not limited to: Conduit/Cabling schedules, stub-up details, and required clearances as state by NEC/IEEE/NFPA standards
  • Utilize your strong technical and communication skills to interface with all aspects of the business and customers
  • Work extensively with our Business Development (BD) teams to evaluate and develop the right technical solutions
  • Work with the BD, execution, and commercial teams on specific projects to ensure the integration of the Microgrid is technically correct, practical, and cost-effective. This includes working with existing service entrance one-line drawings, or creating new ones, to provide the best design interface for functionality and cost
  • Investigate the interconnection which includes modifications to existing design concepts that are applicable to each site
  • Manage engineering consultants in the preparation of detailed engineering and construction drawings and specifications

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program with a focus in power.
  • 4+ years' experience in the design and construction of power/generation/renewable energy projects.
  • 5+ years' experience BESS Projects from conception through IFC
  • In depth understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, UL, ISO).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering licensure in Power
  • Experience with BESS Projects with Utilities AND Private Developers

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
