Overview

Who We Are Seeking

We are looking for a Tech Lead to spearhead our development efforts at LFL. While you will remain hands-on in the codebase, your primary focus will be providing technical vision, mentoring a team of developers, and ensuring the architectural integrity of our systems. You will serve as the bridge between business objectives and technical execution, collaborating closely with product managers and stakeholders to turn complex requirements into scalable, high-performance solutions.

In this role, you aren’t just building applications; you are architecting the future of our stack and enabling a high-performing engineering culture.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Act as the final authority for technical decisions, managing the balance between rapid delivery and long-term technical health
  • Architect end-to-end solutions, documenting technical requirements and selecting the appropriate technology stacks to meet business goals
  • Lead technical projects from initial estimation and discovery through to final deployment and maintenance
  • Actively mentor junior and mid-level developers, fostering skill-sharing and maintaining high standards for code quality and unit testing
  • Directly interact with clients and product owners to provide recommended approaches, feasibility assessments, and technical roadmaps
Required Skills

What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • 7+ years of experience building and maintaining robust web-based applications in production environments
  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams from project estimation through successful deployment
  • Experience with direct client and stakeholder interaction, bridging the gap between business needs and technical implementation
  • A drive to creatively solve complex technical problems and empower teams to develop innovative solutions
  • Advanced proficiency in Go as well as Java and Typescript. Experience with Python is a bonus!
  • Advanced knowledge of both Relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and Document-based (NoSQL) databases
  • Solid understanding of REST architecture, consumption patterns, and the ability to architect complex distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience with cloud functions and hosting services across GCP (GAE, Firebase) or AWS
  • Experience and interest in leading and mentoring a team of developers of all levels
Bonus Points
  • Experience creating or maintaining large-scale SaaS (Software as a Service) projects
  • Practical experience in Scrum or Kanban project leadership
  • Experience with Protobufs, PubSub, or other non-REST communication platforms (gRPC, RPC)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
