Orca’s vision is to build a financial system that puts people first. We envision a future where the majority of global financial transactions are driven by CLAMMs and other Decentralized Finance (DeFi) products. Our ambition reaches beyond becoming the leading provider of financial primitives in crypto—we aim to reshape the foundation of finance itself. We are building the next NASDAQ. If you are someone who is tired of just working another job and wants to build something meaningful, then we invite you to join our team.

As a Technical Engineering Manager, you will partner with product, design, and business teams to translate requirements into infrastructure initiatives. You’ll leverage deep technical expertise to guide engineers and drive decision-making.

What You’ll Do

  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate closely with technical leads to define system architecture, improve technical decision-making, and establish engineering best practices. A strong technical background is required to provide guidance and evaluate technical decisions.

  • Operational Efficiency: Improve processes to ensure effective collaboration across teams. Drive project execution, improve team communication, and reduce bottlenecks.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Product, Design, and Business teams to ensure alignment on priorities and deliverables.

  • Incident Response and Reliability: Ensure your team builds systems that are highly available and resilient. Help drive incident reviews and ensure lessons are documented and addressed.

  • People Management: Lead a team of talented engineers by supporting their growth, helping them solve technical challenges, and ensuring they have the resources to succeed. Foster a culture of ownership, resilience, and authenticity within the team.

  • Team Growth: Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers to expand the team. Identify talent gaps and work with leadership to fill those needs.

What You’ll Bring

  • Engineering Background: You have prior experience as a software engineer, ideally in frontend or infrastructure. While you won’t be writing production code in most situations, you’ll be expected to understand technical trade-offs, assess technical difficulty to coordinate effectively, and support engineers in making decisions.

  • Proven Leadership Skills: Experience managing engineers in a high-growth or fast-paced environment. Proven ability to empower engineers and foster strong team culture.

  • Organization & Communication: Highly organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to effectively manage multiple stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams.

  • Ownership Mentality: You embrace agency, identify solutions, and push them forward with minimal oversight.

  • DeFi Understanding: Familiarity with decentralized finance, Solana, or AMMs is a bonus but not required.

  • Resilience: You embrace change, adapt to new challenges, and guide your team through uncertainty with confidence.

What We Offer

  • Salary: 180,000 - 230,000 USDC (Range for US Employees)

  • Token allocation: 70,000 - 150,000 ORCA over 4 years (Range for US Employees)

  • Flexible work schedule.

  • Home office stipend.

  • Wellness stipend.

  • Option to work remotely or from our office in New York City.

  • Paid subscriptions to GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other tools that make you more productive.

Hiring Process
We like to be transparent and efficient. We move fast. We believe this process gives candidates the best experience in getting decisions quickly instead of long, drawn out interview rounds that last weeks.

Initial Screen (50-60 min)

This is an opportunity for us to better understand your experience and knowledge of Solana and DeFi, and an opportunity for you to learn more about the role and company (20-30 min). In the same session, we might ask you to advance directly to a coding exercise so we can evaluate your technical proficiency (30 min).

Engineering Round (60 min each) + COO Chat (20min)
This round will consist of multiple interviews focused on leadership, communication, and technical alignment. It will involve Otto (Head of Engineering), Jonathan, and Zach (Sr Engineer).
You will also have a chat with Isaac, our COO. This is a chance for you to learn about Orca's history, present status, and its bright future.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
