Lead technical design for women's hardwovens jackets and bottoms: create tech packs, run fittings from proto to top, resolve fit/pattern/construction issues, manage vendor communication and sample development, identify production/quality/costing risks, and deliver to seasonal calendar milestones.
Title: Technical Designer, Women's Hardwovens Jackets & Bottoms
Salary Range: $90-$100K
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
- Work closely with design team and product development to develop initial technical package
- Attend fittings and own execution of fit process from initial proto to TOP
- Schedule and lead fit sessions by addressing all construction and fit issues for each garment. Identify fit problems and clearly offer solutions to correct. Cut, pin and drape the fit protos as necessary to clearly identify revisions.
- Send and track comments and protos back to the factories ensuring constant follow-up.
- Act as the point of contact for vendors and answer questions regarding fit, specs, pattern, trims and construction. Daily communication with vendors required.
- Identify potential production, quality and costing issues and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity
- Develop fit standards to ensure size, construction and fit consistency within the brand and product categories.
- Resolve fit, pattern and construction issues.
- Continually research competition in the market for various construction techniques, new technology and fit.
- Manage the sample development process for own category and ensure seasonal deadlines are met
- Align and deliver to agreed calendar milestones
- Promote teamwork by resolving problems and removing barriers that prevent collaboration
Qualifications/Experience We’re Looking For:
- 5 -10 years’ work experience in the fashion industry including technical design and / or patternmaking with construction experience
- Other knowledge should include an understanding of grading, costing of garments, fabric, garment testing, draping and fitting.
- Great interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with a cross-functional team. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, proactively trouble shoot and influence.
- Providing positive solutions to issues as they arise
- Understanding of production garment construction
- Must be able to interpret design intent and create alternative “production friendly” solutions.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize workload to meet calendar goals
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop & Excel
