Who we are

We're Redis. We built the product that runs the fast apps our world runs on. (If you checked the weather, used your credit card, or looked at your flight status online today, you’re welcome.) At Redis, you’ll work with the fastest, simplest technology in the business—whether you’re building it, telling its story, or selling it to our 10,000+ worldwide customers. We’re creating a faster world with simpler experiences. You in?

Why would you love this job?

We're looking for an engineer interested in helping us build the best database education program on the planet. Our ideal candidate is a software developer who also loves to teach. You've built some non-trivial database-backed applications. But you also have a passion for explaining technical concepts in just the right way.

At Redis, we believe that education is a creative engineering function. So in this role, you'll get to leverage both sides of your brain. You'll design persona-based learning journeys and curriculum to help people get the most out of Redis. You'll further engineer and improve our education platform. You'll also become a veritable Redis expert.

This is a unique role because it combines teaching and software engineering. When applying, please let us know in a few words why you'd be a good fit. Polymath developer? Hacker who loves to speak and write? A natural storyteller with a love for learning new technology? If any of these descriptions fits, then we'd love to hear from you!

What you’ll do:

  • Build course content: course scripts, sample code, labs, quizzes
  • Develop sample applications using a variety of programming languages
  • Learn about new product features and teaching methods, collaborating with the Redis developer relations team, services team, product, and engineering teams to create accurate, engaging, in-depth educational material
  • Occasionally, present the courses you develop on camera
  • Maintain existing Redis University courses
  • Analyze learning curriculum performance against user adoption goals and other metrics

What will you need to have?

  • B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent experience in a software or technology-related field. Aptitude and attitude are more important than credentials.
  • Demonstrated experience of 5 + years in at least two of the following areas: teaching, technical content development, public speaking, technical writing
  • Solid understanding of the Python programming language. Knowledge of at least one other programming language is a big plus (e.g., C, C#, Go, Java, Javascript, Rust, Go)
  • Additional experience in developer operations, cloud operations, or architecture
  • Experience using a SQL or NoSQL database in production. Knowledge of Redis is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with one or more development frameworks (e.g., Spring, Django, Tornado, Gin, Node.js, etc.)
  • Experience conducting knowledge gap analysis and/or job skills profiles to identify what learners needs to be successful in their role
  • Engaging and poised presentational skills — you might be an on-screen presenter!
  • Excellent engineering and program management skills to manage complex production schedules and their dependencies
  • Experience with one of the following content development platforms a plus (Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, Rise)
  • Willingness to get deep into the weeds and ability to see the bigger picture and tell a story with your content
  • Be prepared to share a portfolio or sample work

We give back to our employees:

Our culture is what makes Redis a fun and rewarding place to work. To support you at work and beyond, we offer all our US team members fantastic benefits and perks:

  • Competitive salaries and equity grants
  • Unlimited time off to promote a healthy work-life balance
  • H/D/V coverage along with 401K, FSA, and commuter benefits
  • Frequent team celebrations and recreation events
  • Home internet & phone stipend
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Ability to influence a high-performance company on its way to IPO

The estimated gross base annual salary range for this role is $106,074- $124,013 per year in New York, California, Washington, Colorado, and Rhode Island. Actual compensation may vary and is dependent on various factors, including a candidate’s work location, qualifications, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of Redis’ total compensation and competitive benefits package, which may include 401(k), unlimited time off, learning and development opportunities, and comprehensive health and wellness benefits. This role may include discretionary bonuses, stock options, commuter benefits based on location, or a commission plan. Salary history is not used in compensation package decisions. Redis utilizes market pay data to determine compensation, so posted compensation ranges are subject to change as new market data becomes available.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
