The Technical Content Designer is responsible for creating engaging, clear, and effective educational materials that enhance the customer experience. This role is based in Calgary, Alberta, and will collaborate with product managers, customer success, marketing, and subject matter experts to develop content that simplifies complex concepts and drives user adoption and retention. The Technical Content Designer will collaborate with other teams across Learning & Development to create technical training materials, gather feedback, and implement new materials.
This role is ideal for a Customer Success Manager who's looking to transition into a more content-focused role-someone who enjoys translating technical knowledge into clear, helpful resources and is passionate about enabling users to get the most out of the product.
Responsibilities

  • Content Development: Design and produce high-quality technical documentation, tutorials, and training materials tailored to various customer segments.
  • User-Centric Design: Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback on content effectiveness, using insights to refine and improve educational resources.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather insights and ensure accuracy in content related to product features and updates.
  • Content Strategy: Contribute to the development of a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with customer education goals and business objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze content performance metrics and iterate on materials based on user engagement and feedback.
  • Industry Trends: Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in technical communication and customer education, integrating new ideas into content development processes.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all content adheres to company standards and best practices, maintaining a high level of accuracy and clarity.
  • Strategy: Collaborate content strategy discussions, identifying opportunities for new content initiatives that align with business goals and enhance the customer experience.


Competitive Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field (Engineering, Geology, Finance, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Education)
  • Experience in technical role across the energy industry (eg. in Customer Success team)
  • Strong understanding of user experience principles and instructional design methods. Proficiency in content design tools.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work directly with customers to understand their needs and strategies to provide curated training materials and resources.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of LMS systems (Thought Industries) and CRMs (Salesforce) preferred.
  • Willingness to travel (US)
