Mysten Labs believes that decentralized and open protocols are the bedrock of the internet of value. This is why at Mysten Labs, we are creating foundational infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of decentralized protocols based on blockchain technologies.

As a Technical Accounting Specialist you'll take ownership of our most complex accounting and regulatory matters.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role for someone who loves solving challenging accounting problems, writing memos, and operationalizing policy. You’ll partner closely with leadership, policy experts, and external advisors to ensure our financial reporting is accurate, audit-ready, and defensible in a rapidly evolving industry.

What You’ll Do:
  • Research, draft, and maintain technical accounting memos on complex transactions (SAFEs, SAFTs, token conversions, carve-outs, revenue recognition)

  • Support M&A, restructurings, and valuations (ASC 805 purchase price allocations, goodwill, deferred taxes, entity wind-downs)

  • Assist in designing and operationalizing crypto accounting policies, including token compensation, staking, and on-chain activity

  • Contribute to financial reporting and disclosures, including crypto holdings, fair value hierarchy, and audit support

  • Work cross-functionally to improve processes, controls, and accounting technology to reduce reconciliation risk and scale operations

What You’ll Bring:
  • CPA (active) or equivalent, with 5–8 years of experience (Big 4 assurance or technical advisory strongly preferred)

  • Solid foundation in U.S. GAAP (ASC), with experience drafting memos and disclosures

  • Exposure to complex transactions (M&A, equity/debt instruments, restructurings) - crypto exposure a plus, but not required

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving policies and priorities

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and interest in accounting automation/crypto subledger tools

  • Strong communication skills - able to translate technical guidance into clear documentation for auditors and leadership

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, which may include verification of employment history, education credentials, criminal history, and other relevant information.

Regarding the recent rash of technology job scams: Be aware that emails from genuine Mysten Labs group recruiters will always come from the @mystenlabs.com domain or related subdomains (e.g., mystenlabs.com/careers). Remember: you can always verify positions on our job boards at www.mystenlabs.com/careers.

To support an efficient and fair hiring process, we may use technology-assisted tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help identify and evaluate candidates. All hiring decisions are ultimately made by human reviewers.

Our team is remote first and we are hiring across the world. Here at Mysten Labs, you’ll be joining a world-class team with tremendous growth potential as we bring the next billion users to web3. We raised a $300M Series B round from top Silicon Valley led venture funds like Jump Crypto, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Binance Labs, Redpoint, Lightspeed, Coinbase Ventures, Electric Capital, Standard Crypto, NFX, Slow Ventures, Scribble Ventures, Samsung Next, Lux Capital, among other investment firms and strategic partners. Come join us and build the future of web3!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
