About CookUnity:

Food has lost its soul to modern convenience. And with it, it has lost the power to nourish, inspire, and connect us. So in 2018, CookUnity was founded as the first-of-its-kind platform that connects the world with the source of truly great food: chefs. Today, CookUnity delivers 50 million meals a year from the industry’s best chefs to homes all over the country. Fresh. Ready-to-eat. And crafted with the passion that nourishes body and soul.

Unwilling to stop there, CookUnity is expanding beyond delivery to become an ever-innovating marketplace focused on our singular mission: empower Chefs to nourish the world.

If that mission has you hungry in more ways than one, you’ve found the right job posting.

About the Team:

As part of our B2B Operations, the Tech Enablement team serves as a central tech hub connecting Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, CX, and Operations. We focus on building internal tools and automations that streamline workflows and reduce manual work across teams. By unifying systems and data and leveraging a mix of low-code platforms and custom development, Tech Enablement drives efficiency and scalable growth for CookUnity’s B2B business. This small, cross-functional team wears many hats – from creating process automations and integrations, to building and maintaining smart hardware solutions – all in the service of empowering our Ops team and other departments to work smarter and faster.

The role:
  • We are looking for a Staff Tech Enablement Engineer to lead the technology that supports CookUnity's B2B operations and Smart Fridges program.
  • You will manage and develop a Tech Enablement Engineer, work hands-on with the engineer covering Smart Fridges hardware and OS, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Operations, Healthcare, Sales, Marketing, and CX leaders.
  • You will own the direction and reliability of our internal tools, automations, and integrations while leading the hardware and operating-system work needed to deploy and support hundreds of Smart Fridges.
  • This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set priorities and technical standards, review architecture and code, investigate difficult software and device issues, and make sure each solution has a clear owner and support model.
  • You will help the team move quickly without creating fragile workflows, undocumented devices, or systems that cannot be operated safely at scale.
Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership & Prioritization: Manage, coach, and develop the Tech Enablement Engineer. Own intake, capacity, roadmap, delivery commitments, and communication with B2B and Product & Engineering leaders. Make tradeoffs visible and focus the team on measurable business impact.
  • Build & Optimize Automations: Lead the design, delivery, and operation of workflows that remove manual work across B2B. Use low-code tools such as n8n and custom software where each is appropriate. Ensure critical jobs have monitoring, failure handling, recovery paths, and clear ownership.
  • Full-Stack Internal Tools: Guide the development of internal web and mobile tools, dashboards, and services for Operations, Healthcare, CX, Sales, and Smart Fridges. Contribute directly to complex work, establish sound engineering practices, and decide when a prototype needs to become a supported product.
  • Hardware (IoT) & Smart Fridge OS: Own the technical direction for Smart Fridges hardware and embedded Linux software alongside the hardware engineer. Work across compute devices, locks, sensors, cameras, connectivity, and on-device computer vision. Partner with manufacturers and field teams on component choices, build quality, installation, device debugging, and failure analysis.
  • Fleet Scale & Reliability: Turn one-device-at-a-time setup and updates into repeatable imaging, enrollment, remote deployment, staged releases, rollback, and central fleet-health monitoring. Define release gates, security controls, and operational measures so hundreds of fridges can be deployed, updated, and supported without proportional growth in manual work or site visits.
  • Third-Party Integrations: Lead reliable data flows between CookUnity systems and platforms such as Salesforce, support tools, logistics services, and healthcare partners. Work with system owners on API and webhook contracts, data quality, credentials, and incident response.
  • Security & Operational Readiness: Partner with Security, Legal, Infrastructure, and Engineering on access, secrets, auditability, and reviews for customer and healthcare data. Build runbooks, alerting, and recovery procedures for business-critical workflows and field devices.
  • Documentation & Handover: Keep source-of-truth links, architecture decisions, device build and release procedures, deployment steps, and operational playbooks current. Decide with Product and Engineering which services Tech Enablement will maintain, which prototypes should be productized, and which should be retired.
  • AI Tools & Agents: Identify practical opportunities to use AI in B2B operations and engineering workflows. Evaluate prototypes for measurable value, reliability, data protection, and a sustainable owner before scaling them.
Minimum requirements:
  • Experience managing engineers, including coaching, feedback, prioritization, and accountability for delivery.
  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience across backend services, integrations, and internal applications, with proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python and working knowledge of SQL.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating physical devices with embedded Linux or comparable IoT software in the field. You can diagnose problems across device hardware, sensors, connectivity, operating-system services, and cloud systems.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling a device fleet beyond hand-configured deployments, including reproducible provisioning, remote software updates, staged releases and rollback, telemetry, security, and field support.
  • Experience designing reliable production workflows using APIs, webhooks, scheduled jobs, and third-party systems, including retries, idempotency, monitoring, and data reconciliation.
  • Experience with cloud deployment, CI/CD, access management, and incident response for systems that business teams depend on.
  • Sound judgment about security and privacy, including when to involve specialist reviewers for sensitive customer or healthcare data.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous operational needs into priorities, technical plans, and clear decisions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Helping to have higher levels of uptime & supporting the on-call rotation that will help the business run 24/7
  • Fluent English communication skills, written and spoken, for collaboration across teams and regions.
Preferred requirements:
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi or similar edge devices, and with AWS IoT Greengrass, SSM, MQTT, or comparable fleet-management tools.
  • Experience with camera pipelines, computer vision at the edge, hardware manufacturing, or device quality assurance.
  • Experience with n8n or similar automation platforms and with Salesforce or other CRM integrations.
  • Experience building internal applications with React/Next.js and Node.js or Python, and deploying them on cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with healthcare operations or workflows involving PHI-sensitive data.
  • Experience with customer support, marketing, or logistics tools and their APIs.
  • Experience applying AI tools to operational workflows while checking output quality, privacy, and business impact.
  • Comfort leading a small team across software, hardware, vendors, and business stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
