This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

The role Adyen is evolving from a global payments leader into a full-stack financial technology platform. Unlike many fintechs that rely on partner-bank models, Adyen operates with its own federal banking presence in the United States. As we expand our suite of embedded financial products—including business accounts, card issuing, and lending—we require a sophisticated regulatory strategy that aligns with federal standards.

We are looking for a Team Lead to build and head our newly established Product Advisory team for North America. This team is the bridge between rigorous bank oversight and scalable product innovation. You will be the primary strategist for ensuring our financial products are built to the highest standards and for guiding those products through the OCC supervision process. This is a rare opportunity to lead a team at the intersection of "Big Tech" product speed and "Tier 1" banking rigor.

What you’ll do

  • Build & Lead: Establish the vision for the NA Product Advisory function, hiring and mentoring a team of specialists dedicated to supporting Adyen’s expansion as a federally overseen financial institution.
  • Federal Banking Strategy: Act as the primary advisor for the U.S. and Canadian product roadmap, ensuring all launches comply with banking laws and the expectations of the relevant regulators.
  • Compliance by Design: Partner with Product Managers and Engineers to architect features that meet federal standards—including UDAP,  Reg B, and Reg CC—ensuring that compliance is a competitive advantage rather than a friction point.
  • Supervisory Liaison: Work closely with the Regulatory team and local stakeholders to manage the "Product" pillar of regulatory examinations, translating complex technical logic into clear documentation.
  • Strategic Horizon Scanning: Monitor and interpret federal regulatory shifts, including updates to the Dodd-Frank Act, OCC guidance, and evolving standards for artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and open banking (Section 1033).
  • Advisory & Governance: Provide executive-level briefings on the regulatory implications of new product features, balancing commercial ambition with the safety and soundness requirements of a federally supervised entity.

Who you are

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in regulatory legal, federal banking compliance, or product advisory. You have a deep background working within a federally chartered bank or a sophisticated fintech operating under direct federal oversight.
  • Strategic Problem Solver: You apply a first-principles approach to regulation. You don’t just cite rules; you understand the intent behind federal oversight and find creative, compliant paths to achieve product goals.
  • Collaborative Leader: You have a proven ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders—from engineers to executive leadership—in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: You can translate dense legal and compliance jargon into clear, actionable technical requirements and high-level strategic advice.
  • Technical Expertise: You have a command of U.S. federal banking laws and the OCC’s supervisory framework. You understand what it means to build products within a licensed federal branch or bank environment.
  • Mindset: You are comfortable with the "Adyen Formula"—you prefer speed over bureaucracy and are excited by the challenge of building a new advisory function from the ground up.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
