About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our growing tax team. This is a fully remote, full-time position reporting directly to the VP of Tax. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing the company's federal, state, and local tax compliance, supporting tax provision and reporting processes, and helping to build scalable tax processes as the organization grows. Experience with domestic and partnership taxation is a plus, and familiarity with NetSuite and Avalara is highly valued.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns, in partnership with external advisors
  • Oversee non-income tax compliance, including sales/use, gross receipts, and property tax filings
  • Support the quarterly and annual income tax provision process (ASC 740), including effective tax rate analysis and uncertain tax position documentation (FIN48/ASC 450)
  • Assist with partnership tax matters, including K-1 preparation/review, allocations, and composite state filings
  • Manage and maintain tax configurations and taxability settings within NetSuite and Avalara
  • Reconcile tax accounts and ensure accurate tax accruals within the general ledger
  • Research and analyze the tax implications of business transactions, new products, and state nexus issues
  • Support international tax compliance matters, including assisting with foreign filings, transfer pricing documentation, and cross-border reporting requirements (e.g., Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, as applicable)
  • Assist the broader tax team with international tax planning, entity structuring, and foreign tax provision matters
  • Respond to and manage federal and state tax notices and audits
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, controls, and automation
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, FP&A, and Legal on tax-related matters
  • Assist the VP of Tax with tax planning initiatives and special projects
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior tax team members, as applicable

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's in Taxation, CPA, JD, or LLM a plus
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally including a mix of public accounting and industry/in-house experience
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance and provision (ASC 740)
  • Experience with domestic tax matters and partnership taxation (K-1s, allocations, composite returns) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of international tax concepts (e.g., GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, foreign tax credits, transfer pricing) and ability to assist with international tax compliance matters
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Avalara strongly preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with large volumes of data
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and comfortable operating in a fully remote environment

Nice to Have

  • Prior exposure to international tax compliance or provision work (e.g., foreign entity filings, transfer pricing, cross-border transactions)
  • Experience with tax technology/automation tools
  • Experience in a private equity-backed, SaaS, or high-growth multinational environment
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior staff

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
