Job Description:

As a State and Local Tax Manager who specializes in Sales and Use Tax Compliance, your responsibilities will include performing tax research on state and local tax matters such as tax planning, implementation, due diligence, state refund studies, and state tax controversies with state jurisdictions. To be successful you will need to demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship skills.  As a specialist in your role, you will work directly with clients and manage the tax engagement team. This is a dynamic opportunity to be part of a growing team and take on new challenges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the end-to-end sales and use tax compliance process, including data gathering, return preparation, filing, and remittance across all applicable jurisdictions (local, state, and Canada)

  • Research tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with current rules and identify opportunities for process improvement or tax optimization

  • Oversee and respond to tax notices, working with internal team and clients as needed

  • Review tax software onboarding entries and help with automation to streamline compliance processes

  • Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on the clients’ business

  • Train and advise internal teams on sales tax rules, and compliance requirements

  • Assist with reducing DSO by timely reviewing assigned project codes and billing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred

  • CPA, JD/LLM, or CMI required

  • 5 years of tax experience in public accounting with a state and local tax focus

  • Possess strong research, writing skills and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent client relationships

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to perform in a high-energy, dynamic environment

  • Having some review and supervisory experience is a plus, but not required

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $96,500.00 - $228,500.00 per year.
